All About Home Addresses

I think if you really rented a flat near the school and live in there, no one can fault you even if your other home is far far far away (provided it is not HDB flat, because by law you need to live in your HDB flat)
In this case, I heard they rented a flat and left it empty just for the school registration. So money makes the world go round.
My friend wanted to use the same method for her child who is registering next year. But fortunately, she has moved to their new place and has identified a decent school that they have a good chance of getting a place. -

I also wanted to add - if I were to ask my mum to look after my son in her rented place, sacrificing comfort and study space etc, would this be feasible?
I always feel that by renting a room and using the address don't seem justifiable and in addition, what happens if there is someone else using the same address as well without both party knowing. It's become very clear that it's a sham. -

you are talking about a room
how big is a room ?
and, you need to make a statutory declaration that your mum look after him there. check your conscience. is it really true ?
don't forget, under this rule, 1 km becomes 2 km.
and your son could be happily playing with other kids and blurt out that he never goes to grandma's place.....are you prepared for the legal consequences ? -

You shouldn't use the address at all if you think it is not feasible. -

Seems like there's no way out for us then. I was told Catholic High is beyond reach unless you move within 1km of the school, even then it might be tough to get a place. And as for SJIJ, short of baptising my son, the only other option is for us to move within 1km of the school. The option I'm exploring is basically a \"sham\" according to you guys.lynettewoo:

So the only 2 schools that are within my vicinity are out of my reach. Sometimes i really wonder if this is a good system of P1 registration. -

Think I've a friend who is in similar situation. Targetting for CHS but don't look like a realistic target now. So next alternative is SJIJ which they are still looking for a place in that area. Heard the apartments in balestier area is more affordable.

A room is the size of a room. and as stated, if my mum were indeed looking after my son in her place, would this be a feasible option? -

I think Balestier is rather far off. Novena is a better option. But like i said, how many people can afford it? -

I believe there must be many more schools in your vicinity than just CHS and SJIJ. If you are living more than 2km from SJIJ but are considering that school, why not consider others like St Gabriels? It is a Catholic school, all-boys and in past years, did not even require balloting for outside 2km in P2C. There is also Maris Stella, where many of the parents in this forum went to after the situation at CHS turned dire this year.Seems like there's no way out for us then. The P1 registration system is not without its flaws, but there are good reasons why it was designed in this way. If you've exhausted all avenues, do consider other schools; they may not be that bad after all. -

Indeed, the only 3 schools within our area are Ai Tong, Catholic High and SJIJ. We do not want to send him to Ai Tong as the level of Chinese is quite high and moreover, we would prefer if he goes to a Catholic School.

Yes, I've heard that Maris Stella is an under subscribed school - any idea if it is the same for St Gabriel's? Do we stand a good chance even if we register at the last Phase? Do these schools have PV programs?
Thanks.
