I have recently enrolled my gal to Julia Gab. for their bilingual playgroup. It’s a 2 hour programme where it’s conducted in Mandarin and English. There are 4 teachers in total. 2 for English the other 2 for Mandarin.

I have always been very keen in this biligual programme as part of the lesson is conducted in Mandarin. I must said I am very impressed by the Mandarin part especially the story telling period. It’s really animated. Though my gal couldn’t understand a single Mandarin, she was so attentive and really follow through out the story. The China teachers role played and they needn’t read from any book. As for the English bit, I’m a little disappointed. They read directly from a book and it’s rather uninteresting.

But on the whole, it’s still good and I find that my gal is trying to ‘speak’ more after attending this programme.

Compared to Growing Up Gifted, Julia Gab is slightly more pricey but I feel that the teacher at Julia Gab speaks better English and needless to say, the Mandarin is superb! Also, at JG they encourage children to speak up and be more independent.

currently, he’s attending s&d at Julia Gabriel every saturdays and he made tremendous improvement in his confidence. he’s more confident to express his thoughts and feelings. s&d also improves his speech and enhances creativity. he’s always looking forward for the next lesson.

            well done, JG!

in my opinion, teachers are only there to guide the children, doing their very best but they have no superpower to change a child’s abilities in a short period using the simplest method. learning needs a lot of effort, patience and time, depending on the child. parents play the most important part in their child’s learning process, therefore, parents are the best teachers. be supportive and express more encouragement and praises to your child even if they show little improvement.

however, don’t mistaken me for a teacher!

hi my daughter used to attend playclub and playnest (one term each) when she was 16mths to 19mth. she loved the experience! the teachers were great becos of the impromptu singing and jamming on keyboard, playclub bears entertaining when they mimick the animal sounds etc. up to now, she still talks about julia gabriel and wants to go back. i stopped becos i enrolled her in cc.

recently i brought her for a trial for edudrama for N1. she’s now 3 plus. wasn’t impressed as i feel the activities r similar to playclub. so in the end never enroll. basically they had show and tell one-by-one for each kid (plus give stickers to reward), singing songs, pretending (jumping like frogs, baa-ing like sheep etc). they also moved out from the classroom to go into another room. my daughter stil loves the experience though.

overall, i would say teachers there r still fantastic. juz that the things they do doesn’t seem very diff from wat the cc already is doing.
