My ds violin teacher advise us not to listen to the cd when practising the suzuki book. He said in long run does not benefit the kid as he will become reliant on it. However, my friends dd violin teachers told them to pract at home with the cd? :? Anyone who are using suzuki book have the same probm as me?

How old is your ds? Suzuki method recommends listening to the CD ahead of time too, and often. But not really to practise WITH.

My ds is 7yo. His teacher suggest dont even try listening to it. But sometimes, when we are stuck, not sure if he play correctly, the cd comes in useful.

Listen, listen, listen to the music. Even listen ahead of the pieces you are learning. listen everyday. So that you'll know the piece by heart and then only need to work on the technical bits when you learn the piece. Listening even before knowing how to read the music (but that's for preschoolers mainly).

Actually I'm surprised that any teacher would say not to listen to a piece. Listening trains the hearing, and helps promote appreciation of the finer points of the piece. Why prolong the learning by not listening? Unless the teacher is trying to teach sightreading with every piece.

Why don't you read the book, \"The Suzuki Violinist: a Guide\". Can borrow from National Library.

                    Hi,

I am looking for a violin teacher for my son(7 years old). I live in Jurong, if it is not too far, I can travel to teacher's place.

                    Highly appreciated your recommendation.

                    Hi

Browsing thru conversation at Kiasuparent forum, can I check with you, did you manage to find any violin teacher?

I am looking for violin teacher for DD she is 13 years old, piano G6, now got interest in violin.

If you know any good violin teacher can recomand to me, I am still Jurong also..

                    Hi

I'm also looking for 1 but I stay in the East. I don't know if your teacher would want to travel East. BTW, my DS is in Grade 3.

Can anyone here recommend me a good violin teacher for my 11 yo DS? Thanks.
