Hi, I have another query - would we stand a better chance at Cat High if we do PV plus do community work since I live within the same GRC?

No, both falls under Phase 2B. The only thing that will matter then is how far away you live. Although if you want to try going on the wait list, doing PV will raise your profile with the school and that may give you a wee bit advantage - but wait list is really the last place you should go.

I assume you are Catholic since your pref is for Catholic schools. if you are a baptised catholic, you should qualify for 2B already. Just have to produce some certifying document.

Hi, yes I'm Catholic, but my child is not, and I heard from some replies here that one parent and the child must be catholic in order to qualify for 2B.

Arrh, I remember that post. Have you checked with your church? They may be better placed to advise. Sorry I am unable to provide useful information. Check with them first before you jump into pv/community work.

            Good luck!

ok I just got some great news from SJIJ - I e-mialed them to check if it was necessary that the childbe baptised o qualify for Phase 2B. This was their reply: 'Either the parent or son has to baptise. As long as you have a Baptism Certificate is suffice to register under Phase 2B.'

yay! Which means with my baptism cert alone we qualify for 2B.

For SJIJ only. Different school different requirements. Suggest you chk with CHS n MS also if you are thinking of registering in those schools.

                    Hi,
any idea on my chances of getting a chance to ballot at Phase 2B for SJIJ? We live more than 2km away from the school. I understand there was balloting for beyond 2km in Phase 2B this year.

Any idea on the list of Catholic Schools which have had a history of balloting at Phase 2B for those living more than 2km away?

I was thinking of trying our luck under 2B at SJIJ. In the event of ballot, if we don't get a space, we move on to St Gabriel's for Phase 2C.

                    Good plan? Any comments appreciated!
                    Thanks.

                      Hi,
You can check out this page for the balloting history later. The full 2010 data is not updated yet.
                      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/singapore-primary-1-registration-school-balloting-history

Your strategy is plausible for now. You gotta see how it goes next year for Phase 2A (the phase before 2B), then compare with the balloting history.

SJI had balloting for >2km at Phase 2B, with 51 fighting for 33 places (all >2kmers) :
                      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=487&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=140

At Phase 2B, Catholic schools that had to ballot for >2kmers would be SJIJ, MSH and Holy Innocents (co-ed). CHS ballot for 1km and I won't mention the convents here.

St Gab's and St Stephen's didn't need balloting at Phase 2B but both had balloting for >2km for Phase 2C this year.

If this phenomenon goes on, and if lady luck is not on your side, you may have to go to Montfort at Phase 2C Supp. Take the chance as you have strategised, but be prepared for Montfort. If you don't want that, then you better move closer to SJIJ, join Phase 2B and keep that email from them.

I would like to join shhk. Any shhk member can help with the recommendation? What are the activities a member can expect?
