All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Darius:
Hi, how to check whether what criteria the school needs when they choose PV. what question do they normally ask PV
each school has their own needs, hence requirements are difference, and so the questions asked are also different
best you check with the school you are eyeing on -

in fact I think it's encouraged that parents apply for schools nearer to where they stay. if you stay more than 2km, schools may not even want to include you for PV - this is in event that you don't get a chance to ballot and I'm fairly sure some schools may not want to go through the trauma of having to explain to the parents. So...do indicate in your form that you would be moving nearer to the school if selected. It won't hurt your chances.3CsMom:
Thanks hquek for your prompt reply. Just wondering if pv application address has to be the same as registration address? If I apply pv using an address >2km but later moved nearer to the school, will that be allow?
yup currently no MOE rules saying you cannot move nearer to the school. -
verykiasu2010:
yup. I have heard of traffic wardens, coupon distributor, extra hands during outings/sports day/school events, gardener, drama instructor (thinking of a very famous ms tay in SG), reading to kids.Darius:

Out of curiosity, will a school select potential PVs staying out of 1km ? If successful being chosen, this means that the PV will register under Phase 2B, supposing balloting is required for those out of 1km, then still donβt have chance to get into the school right ?

Hi dear, has any parent of child 2006 applied for PV at NYPS and called for interview?

inevitably there are PVs outside of 1km
they are expressedly told at the point of joining the PV scheme that there is no guarantee as balloting may be required, as circumstances changes from year to year -

year of birth 2006Hi dear, has any parent of child 2006 applied for PV at NYPS and called for interview?

year of Pri 1 = 2013
year of registration = 2012 August
80 hours of PV to be completed by June 2012
hence you must start PV by July 2011, or earlier, say July 2010....not sure any earlier than July 2010 or not ....
I believe they do start PV duty more than 12 months prior to registration... -
Thanks verykiasu. Just hope to stay ahead of the news so could make alternate plans earlier.

We are planning to apply for PV for Rosyth and Pei Hwa. Whichever gets it, we will move nearer to the school (probably rent). We are currently staying less than 1km from River Valley PS. Just wondering if thru PV, if weβre unsuccessful in phase 2b (using the rented apt address) for either Rosyth or PHPS, are we allow to use our own home address in phase 2c to apply for RVPS? Basically, 2 different addresses in 2 different phases. Please advice.
