      Hi Happyfeet

Have you seen Canossian Convent at Jalan Merbok, off Jalan Jurong Kechil? It is on a very quiet road right at the hilltop…big spaces/playground for the kids to run around, fresh air & nature at their doorstep, also not too stressful (but still have spelling and tingxie at K2), very homely felling as there are aunties to cook lunch every day. Used to be managed by a Catholic nun who was the principal there abt 1.5yrs ago, not too sure abt now. I believe fees also much cheaper than Gracefieds cos my girl was previously at Canossian but now at Gracefieds (Gilstead Rd) after we moved house.

I talked to the principal of the kindergarten which my gal is attending. She told me MOE wants to raise the standard of pre-school teachers, as such practicum hours as well as theory sessions taught will be extended.

Actually, being a pre-school teacher isn't a cup of tea at all. Lesson planning for different age groups, as well as the little kids behaviour is tougher than primary school. Furthermore, syllabus at pre-school is not standardized by MOE. Parents worry if their little ones are ready for P1 and comparison sets in when they have older children already in primary school.

Times have changed so much since my son left kindergarten (5 years ago). Kids at K2 now have to learn so much more at a younger age. I pity them. 😢 😢 😢

          Hi Happyfeet,

Maybe you want to consider St Joseph Church’s Kindergarten, catholic kindergarten. Stand alone building, big field, playgroup. School bus service.

Yes, it isn't but if your heart is into the job, the job holds the strings to
your heart. Planning the curriculum, programme and activities are the
most interesting part of being in the pre-school industry. Not speaking
for everyone, but i truly love it. The planning process keeps me all
excited and hyped as i imagine how much fun the children would be
            having.

If the curriculum is systematic, there will be no sudden rush or flow of
stuff to learn. Then learning all concepts is in gradual order and also
            age-appropriate. 😉

              Hi buds,

It’s about time pre-school educators get recognition, MORE recognition for their efforts to educate young children before primary school.

I have to agree with you that planning can be interesting. I even thought of continuing with my diploma in pre-school teaching, but realized I have no time. Besides, with 2 kids already in primary school, my priority is on their education.

                  Hi Happyfeet,

I also registered my kid at St Josephs kindergarten.Pity that my second girl cannot continue at Gracefields.I wish they could have informed parents earlier about the lease expiring. My elder one was lucky and she had a smooth transition from kindergarten to Primary.Hopefully St. Josephs can fill in the gap -only thing to note is more students in the class.
