[Novena] Primary Schools

Hi there
So in short, can I say that SJIJ still carries out balloting session every year. My parents are staying 1.99km away from the school and if I am using my parents address, he will belongs to the Phase 2B, right? We are a taoism family… though my son went to a church kindergarten. I am not particular about the belief. However I am worry that the school does particular about it. My son’s standard is so-so only, kinda worry that he might not be able to make it in the studies. Can anyone advice how is the schools’s standard? -

Hi Mircale Child, so far did anyone revert back to you. I also wish to register my son at SJJIJ but now got worried when you mentioned the standard ain't good. Are you referring to their PSLE passing rate ain't good?[Moderator's note: Topics merged.]
Hi, I am new in this forum. My son is due to for P1 registration this year. we live near Lavender and are thinking of registering him for SJI Junior given that we are Catholics, and SJIJ is the nearest all-boys Catholic school near to us.
H/w, I have heard that SJIJ's standard is not too good and that the chinese level is poor. Anyone can share experience on this? -

No, staying 1.99km away does not qualify you under phase 2B. Phase 2B is 'for a child whose parent has joined the school as a parent volunteer and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by certain dates; or whose parent is a member endorsed by the church/clan directly connected with the school; or whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader.'
Where you stay only give you priority if number of applicants exceeed number of vacancies in each phase. -
Fangfang:
Hi, it was just based on comparison with the top schools....but not fair comparison, I guess...

hi jesschan,
i'm new to this forum & saw your posting on balestier hill primary school. could you please tell me more about the academic performance of this school & their last psle results?
i'm moving to novena area & this school is not far away. other schools like scgs & chij (tpy) won't get a chance in phase 2c..........unless i try to get endorsed as grassroots volounteers or move again........

Indeed, the chinese standard is very low and standard so-so. but I'm keen to put my boy there cos we are catholics too.hahha.
Hi Smurf,
Are you within 1km or 1-2km? We are outside of 2km. Any idea how was the balloting for Phase 2B last year ie. how may applicants outside 2km vs vacancies left for that category? Thanks. -
Hi Miracle child,
no, I dun stay near, in fact, I stay in the north.very far. If my boy takes bus, it will takes around 1.5 hour minimum.haha. but we qualified for phase 2A though.
I think you can check the balloting history from http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/novena.
Te chart shows that balloting for phase 2B >2km. so, if you are in phase 2B, and staying within 1km, chances of getting a place is quite high.:) -

hi all
i need help to interpret this
http://www.scgs.edu.sg/downloads/misc/P1_Reg_Data_2008.pdf
i noticed that there were no distance differentiation for phase 2B at all. does it mean that there were no balloting for phase 2B?
i have an option to shift to a vacant relative's place within 1-2 km of SCGS. i plan to PV. my girl is attending P1 in 2013. how are my chances of getting into SCGS if i am within 1-2 km and I successfully get into the PV program.
will be grateful for any advice.
many thanks!
