Kudos to you DesertWind :celebrate:

Hi duriz,

Thanks! So are you currently maid-hunting or something? Decided from which country to get?

:celebrate:
Hi Moonee,

looks like we are in the same boat. :hugs:

Anyway, I told the agent yesterday. As my maid's English is not so good, he got his own Myanmar maid to counsel her. Hopefully it works. 🙏

Let's keep each other updated and share tips on handling these maids. I truly believe that sharing our burdens can help reduce each other's stress. 😄

Yup, we definitely r in the same boat! I really hope that ur maid will not give any more problems after speaking to the agent. 🙏 imagine us putting in so much effort training even demonstrating and in return we get
them telling us they want to go back to the agent.
Now that yr maid has spoken to the agent, i suggst you dnt check her too much for the time being, kind of a sensitive period shes going tru now.
I guess its easier said then done especially when we see them repeating the same silly mistake again, our patience run out.
I always remind myself that the maid is not indon or filipina and she comes frm a \"closed up \" country, so cannot expect her to hv common sense and she needs more time to adjust to our life style. Unlike the Indons and filipinas the mynmars dnt know what our houses look like and wat is really expected of them till they come in contact with us. They take it that we are scolding when we r actually correcting them.

I cut down the no. of times she has to wash the car and try not to let her go market too often as thats where the bad influence starts.
Sometimes I get so pissed off that I feel like throwing her back but again I tell myself that a little help is better than no help at all.

Sending kids to/fro school, washing cars and going to the market are opportunities to mix with other maids.
Even when I had a maid back then, hubby sends/picks kids to school. As for marketing, we hardly go to the market but weekly supermarket trips instead...get to enjoy some air con too.
As for washing cars, the time is not fixed. Can be anytime so that maid doesn't have chance to make 'appt'.
Learnt from my first Indonesian maid who used to wash car at 6am everyday and that became a meeting place for all the maids and they made so much noise screaming across while washing cars. :x
Just be careful if you allow your maids to go to the market or supermarket on their own. Because what some of them do is they tompang another maid to do the marketing for them, while they take the 1-2 hours to go do their own business, whatever that may be. They then meet up with the maid after, take the bags of grocery from them, and merrily go home pretending they've spent the last couple of hours at the supermarket/market.

Hi jtoh,

There was once I told my maid to go to the market…she took ages to buy a packet of kuey teow…when I asked, she told me, ‘Call home’. After the 2nd time, I didn’t let her go to the market anymore.
From then on, hubby does all the supermarket grocery. Maid was very upset she had no chance to jalan jalan.

As a SAHM, maids find it hard to work as compared to families where both husband and wife work. They don’t mind running to market, picking/sending kids to school and home, supermarket, tuition etc etc bcos they have chance to chit chat.

Very true. I once interviewed a maid who asked if I was working. Obviously she was the sort who wanted to house all to herself during the day. And of course I struck her off the list at once.

Hi jtoh,

As a SAHM, of course I call the shots at home…even my kids also call me the boss at home. HaHaHa.

Maids like ang moh employers, bcos they get so much freedom working for them…but they better don’t screw up, like hurting the kids.
I ever saw a maid who was chatting with another maid at the void deck after picking the employer’s daughter. The litte girl wanted to go home but the maid kept telling her, ‘later, later’. After another 10 min, she told the girl, ‘wait lah’.

There is a maid I see almost every other night downstairs of my block. She seems to be supposed to be walking the dog, but is more like exercising her phone card at the public phone. Dog just sitting there, boh pian. 😛

I also agree, that's why my maids don't have to wash car. And if they do, we'll usually go down and wash the car together.

I’ve seen maid pushing stroller and yakking on handphone in the light rain… bochap the baby getting wet, and chiong traffic light somemore :x … …

Another maid always leaving the wheelchair bound old lady in the sun or near smokers while she ‘siam’ one corner to yak with fellow maids…really ‘pake cheake’ sight! :x

Yup, the very young ones who can’t talk or the very old who are too sick to talk. I pity these 2 groups who are looked after by maids.

Of course those who walk the dogs are the best, bcos dogs can’t talk.

Basically, having a maid drives one up the walls…pity employers who have to work. It’s not like I want to do everything myself but stuff related to my kids and their safety is something I can’t leave to them.
