That's what I thought when I was giving DH my order list from dangdang. But hor when he came back with the order, I imemdiately got the urge to buy more. Incurable?

Popular having Expo sale next week...10 Sep 2010 (Public Holiday) - 12 Sep 2010.

During these sales and also those 20% storewide sales, are stationery and accessories like cartridges on sale? Anyone knows?

Do you know when the mph sale is? btw, everytime I log on, I see if you are still at the bookfair thread, I am scared tt you are gone, then my 'lobang' is gone haha, hmm, yes I don't think the borders one is worth going to.

I keep buying cos my colleagues and I buy for our students, we have a mini library, after a while, they finish the books, must buy new ones. By the way, I get quite good deals with TAS for books too, in the sense that they will give me phrases for the books that I buy which I use to teach the kids to write. Don't know if you know about them? I think they are quite active here. Another lobang I have is buy from salvation army, this one I heard from a friend, I think, can't remember also but they have some good books but must dig out. You know about them?

What is this dang, dang? I can share with my chinese colleagues.

huh? give you phrases for the books? what is that? I used to buy english books like crazy few months ago. Even got a friend in UK to mail them back to me. But then I came to my senses and only buy those classics/stuff that can be reread; most others can be borrowed from the national library.

If anyone is going UK, bookpeople, scholastics.co.uk have VERY VERY good prices for booksets...it's so cheap until jaw can drop.

salvation army never try. sorry but I a bit 'xiao jie' when it comes to books. Eg I dun like to borrow chinese books cos it can be a bit tatty and looks very well used - I dunno where it's been.

Chinese books now I get them from http://www.dangdang.com. this is a website in china (mails to SG at 50% of the list price). They can be infuriatingly slow when it comes to recognising payment, but they do deliver at end of day. Their prices are wayyy good. When in shenzhen - the supposedly biggest bookshop in china/shenzhen, I was unable to find most of dangdang books there! Quality books really make a difference, my kids are happy doing bedtime reading for chinese books now.

One important trick. if you have friends/colleagues, keep very good relations with them. It's much easier/faster to order via 'pay when goods come' (china address only). If you use credit card, can heart attack (if you have time constraint). πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

I think we're long lost twins. My sis carted back 20kg (?) books for me last month. This month we are on last minute holiday to china, and I've ordered another BIG bundle of books. πŸ˜›

I keep thinking I dun have anything more to buy, then I realise, oei, this one seems good; that one looks good too.

DH grumbling like mad, I have to keep reminding him that in SG, it's easily 3-4 times the price. No regrets even if he thinks (or rather knows) I'm :siao:

I think I have this urge to buy again becos I was worried that DH would not be able to bring back all the books I want to buy/or will grumble like hell about having to lug back so may books. Thus the list I eventually gave him is about half of my original list. So now I have the urge to buy those that I had left out from my original list. And guess what this list is quite long too :!:

Not sure how long your list is, but go easy on him lah. If he goes on trips there often, can also carry back then - liu de qing shan zai, bu pai mei chai shao'.

I am asking my colleagues to take delivery, they also will know by next week that I'm crazy. At the airport, my sis friend looked at me and just said very simply with an amazed look....\"your kids have a lot of books to read\".

                  Tips on dangdang.

NEVER EVER EVER combine orders and make one payment. Pay one order each time. I combined 5 orders (to maximise some promotion) and made one payment. The wonderful finance staff took more than 2 weeks and still my orders were stuck in β€˜audit hell’. I sent multiple emails and called them - to no avail.

End up I cancel the orders and reordered - this time asking my colleague to pay when the goods arrive. The order went through to packing stage in a couple of HOURS.

My family are readers but we try to avoid buying books. Too expensive and take up too much space!

We rely on the nlb which is world-class and book rental shops.

Make it triplets! dangdang is extremely addictive!! in addition to the wonderful chinese story books, their preschool activities books, maths sticker books, craft books collections are fantastic too. I just can't stop buying. My recent loot just arrived and I had placed another order liao. After submitting my order, I found more books that I want to buy!!!
