Hi there Dear KiasuParents,
I’m new here. Staying in hougang.
I’ve a son born in 2005, means registering next year.
Super wanted him to get into HIPS, but considering the rate that it’s balloting, quite risky leh, although I stay within 1km.
Daddy is a st. gabriel boy. Should I just send him there?
Sigh… -

Why don't you register your boy in St. Gabriel first, and monitor the situation in HIPS before you decide? -
qms:
Yup, get in at 2A1/2; during last day of 2B then decide if you want to execute the pull out and register mode.bumblemee:

FYI, my friend (within 1km) went in for Nan hua (phase 2B) although I did tell her it's a bit high risk. Thankfully this year within 1KM nonid ballot and her kid got in (I'm very happy to eat my words). So you never know. -
Hmm…
Do you mean the I can register under 2A1/2, get a place, then during the 2C, pull out my registration and register in HIPS if I want?
Although I stay within 1km from HIPS, I regret not coming into this forum earlier. Cause I thought volunteering does take into account distance. So sad. Should have volunteered. -

I am not sure if it is still possible for you to join under grassroot to increase your chance? Some say that as it is under opposition ward, there are many opportunities to do so. But frankly, I am not sure how true.
Yes, within 1km is very risky for HIPS. We are within 1km too and have a 2005 baby. Don't worry, not gg to HIPS
A friend is registering next year for her 2005 boy and they joined grassroot this year and will try for HIPS under 1-2km next year. -
I think 2005 has lots of boys in Hougang leh.
My son’s kindergarten has 20 over classmates whereas the K2 class has about 10 only. I’m super worried about his P1 registration man.
MMM,
Grassroot means help out with the opposition activities issit? Hmm… will go and check it out. Hope it works.
Which school u sending you son to?
If not, then I’m gonna give up on registering with HIPS. -
bumblemee:
Yes u can do that. Just register in St Gabriel under 2A first. On the last day of 2C, go to HIPS and ask how many applicants are within 1km and how many places there are. If no need to ballot or u think the chances are very good and u want to risk balloting, then quickly withdraw from St Gabriel and register at HIPS. Most parents doing this method has one parent stationed in each school on the actual day. Make sure u have all the proper documents for withdrawing/applying etc.Hmm...

For grassroots, not so sure if still in time now as ur registration is next year. U can call up to enquire. All the best.. -

I think the grassroot that my friend's hubby joined is not helping out opposition but PAP. But I suppose in opposition ward, the PAP wants more involvement on grassroot level??? Do check if it is still possible as this route from what I read in another thread does have its requirements in terms of time frame and it is also time consuming as well. But my friend's hubby seems to have gotten the member level shortly after he joined.
My girl (2005) is going to Maha Bodhi. My alma mater and my 2 older kids are there. We did think of HIPS as it's 5 mins walk from our place. We also thought about Rosyth (1-2km) or TNS (as we've a prop within 1km).... but decided to let her go to Maha Bodhi under phase 1 for peace of mind.
Good luck and do try the possible routes now. 1km under Phase 2B seems like a sure win from historical records. For 1km under phase 2C sure must ballot from historical records. -
same. my gal was born in 2005 & i plan to register her in HIPS under phrase 2C next yr & i stay within 1KM. Im starting to get worry about the balloting & such esp its my 1st time registering P1. theres not much choices in school at my area. either HIPS, CHIJ did consider b4 but my 2nd child is a boy so would prefer mixed sch or punggol pri. hougang pri & xin ming r way too far for me.
