Hi mummies,
For those of you interested in buying a SPI bag for your DDs, Kinderfun is having a promo now till 12 Sept. Thereβs a $40 discount for most models, except new arrivals. This works out to be a better deal than the 20% discount OG is giving. For new arrivals, thereβs 15% off. -
Wow! Great to know that this thread is active with the 2010 P1 mommies.

Let's continue to stay active and maybe after the orientation, we can \"jio\" more mummies to join us at KSP as well?
I will be sourcing for a before sch care at near my place at Hougang.
BTW all mummies, read fr the IJ (Toa Payoh) thread that they may consider switching to single session next yr (though it was not planned for initially). Not sure if MCS can do the same too. Anyone know? -

autumn82, u're most welcome, i visited there once when i registered DD to MCS, like some says it's a bit run down, but hubby said what do you expect? a nice hotel for DD? she's already so picky so most likely i'll put her there.
lvkt~~!! Thanks for reminding me! How's the study care eh? Is it behind the sch or in the sch itself...?? I also might need to leave my girl there...lvkt:
hi Tinkerbelle,
thanks for telling, i didn't know assembly hall on 3rd floor, haha.. do P1 have many books to carry to school? so a backpack will be better, ya? btw, do you have any comments of the study care behind the school? i may need to send DD there. thanks and good to meet u here. -

P1 don't really have a lot of books to carry but their bags can be quite heavy for them. There's a timetable so you just pack according to the timetable. On most days, there are 1 maths textbook, 1 maths workbook, 1 Mother tongue text, 1 Mother Tongue workbook, a few exercise books, a Helpmate (diary) and a document file. P1 don't have English textbooks. Only have a thick A5 English Casco Primary English workbook which can be heavy but they don't usually bring that home unless there's homework.
Actually, a lot of my P1 DD's classmates either use SPI bags or trolley bags. My DD didn't want a trolley bag cos it was too heavy for her to lift up and it kept knocking on her legs when she carried the bag up the stairs. Trolley bags are fine if your DD is able to carry the bag up and down the stairs with ease. Can practise during the Dec holidays
Sorry, don't have 1st hand experience with the student care beside the sch. Only heard from another MCS parent that it provides enrichment lessons for the kids before sch and ensures that they have their lunch before escorting the lower primary kids over to sch. She mentioned her DD is no longer a fussy eater
thank you so much for your detailed explanation, but i'm still thinking backpack or trolley is good for her, sigh...maybe let her decide then.

Thanks alot for the info Tinkerbelle~!!

Hello mummies,
Juz check out the student care this morn. It is really beside the sch. V convenient, juz 2 min walk via a side gate. The pl is a little bit run down but pretty organised and the curriculum is not bad.
Sch work is supervised by ex sch teachers. If the children has finished their sch work, they can continue wif other assessment bks. The centre's teacher will mark them. They also engage outside vendor to conduct weekly gym lessons. Every Fri, the children has Disney movie session (for relaxation).
Anyway, if any mummy is interested, it is a long....... waiting list. The centre supervisor says most likely they will call up all parents somewhere in Nov and will interview the parents. Priority will be given to needy families first.
yes, a bit run down, ya? but the girls there are very well-behaved and polite too.
how to determine a needy family? working parents with no helper consider needy family?

Take your time. Still have a few more months to decide. Kids can be fickle-minded. Might like something now but may change their minds later

MCS plans to go single session eventually but at this juncture, there are not enough classrooms to conduct single session. Currently, the P2 and P3 are sharing classes over 2 sessions.
MCS will only convert to single session after it has been selected for upgrading under MOE's PRIME programme. Unfortunately, there are no available holding schools in the vicinity at the moment. The nearest one at cnr of Toa Payoh Lor 1 & Toa Payoh Rise is being used by St. Nic Sec while their sch is upgrading.
Every year MOE will announce which schools will be selected for upgrading. No mention of MCS undergoing PRIME at this stage. Let's hope MCS will be selected for upgrading in 2012.

What do you mean by sharing???

Thought they have already undergone PRIME in 1999??? Maybe they will reduce the intake next yr so as to cater for the single session in time to come????MCS will only convert to single session after it has been selected for upgrading under MOE's PRIME programme.
