Sorry need help again with the below questions :

1) Veronica bought some tulips and lilies in the ratio of 4 : 7
Each tulip cost $1.20 more than each lily.
If she spent $305.50 altogether and the amount she spent on the lilies was $3.90 more than the amount she spent on the tulips, how many tulips did she buy ?

Amt spent on tulips = (4u)(1p + $1.20)
Amt spent on lilies = (7u)(1p)

Total spending = (11u)(1p) + ($4.80)(1u) = $305.50
Difference in spending = (3u)(1p) – ($4.80)(1u) = $3.90

(14u)(1p) = $309.40
(1u)(1p) = $22.10

($4.80)(1u) = $305.50 – 11($22.10) = $62.40
1u = 13

No. of tulips bought = 4u = 4 x 13 = 52

Method = Algebra
Answer = 52 Tulips

Total = 305.50
Cost of tulips = 150.80
Cost of lilies = 154.70

Let price for lilies be p, then price of tulips will be (p+1.20)
Let total flowers be T, # of tulips = 4/11T, # of lilies = 7/11T

(1) 4/11T(p+1.2) = 150.80
(2) 7/11T(p) = 154.70

Substitute (2) into (1) and solving, T = 143.

Hence # of tulips 4/11 x 143 = 52

Vanilla cake, 91 is the number of lilies....so probably your method is correct but in a rush you mixed up the flowers.

Mr Muhamad filled 20% of Tank A, 35% of Tank B and 40% of Tank C with water at first. He then decided to pour all the water from Tank B and Tank C into Tank A. What percentage of Tank A is filled with water?

2. The average height of a group of boys is 1.64m. When 2 new boys each of height of 1.70m joined the group, the average height became 1.65m. How many boys were in the group at the end?

The percentage is 25%

1.65x(u+2)=1.65u+3.3

There were 12 boys in the group at the end.

Thanks for your understanding of Vanilla Cake's plight as she was scrambling for time, this morning.Here's my solution for Q1:

$305.50-$3.90=$301.60
$301.60÷2 = $150.80 (Tulips)
$150.80+$3.90 = $154.70 (Lilies)

Number of units for tulips = 4U
Number of units for lilies = 7U
Cost of 1 unit of tulips = V+1.20
Cost of 1 unit of lilies = V

Total amount for tulips = 4U(V+1.20)=4UV+4.8U
Total amount for lilies = 7U(V) = 7UV

7UV=154.70
4UV=88.40

4UV+4.8U = 150.80
88.40+4.8U=150.80
4.8U=62.40
U=13

Number of tulips = 4U = 4x13=52
Number of tulips bought by Veronica = 52

30% of A = 40% of B+45
100% of A = 40/30x100% of B + 45/30x100 = 400/3% of B + 150

Remaining pupils in School A:
90% of 400/3 % of B + 90% of 150
120% of B + 135

New number of pupils in School B:
10% of (400/3%of B + 150) + 100% of B
340/3% of B + 15

120% of B + 135 = 340/3% of B + 15 + 200
20/3% of B = 80
100% of B = 80x3/20x100 = 1200

(a) Number of pupils in School B = 1200

School A -> 400/3% of B + 150 = (400/3x1200)/100 + 150 = 1750
Difference = 1750-1200 = 550
550/1750x100% = 31 and 3/7%

(b) The percent less pupils in School B than School A = 31 and 3/7%
