      Funx3:
      Got 3 Kids - DD3 still in P5, DS1 & DS2 in Upper Secondary....

Reading All your posts reminds me of All those classes I sent my DD3 to during Pre-schoool :
Ballet, Chinese Dance, Abacus, Chinese Caligraphy and Ink Painting, Piano, Speech And Drama, Art and Craft, Phonics, Han yu Ping Ying, P1 preparation classes, .....
and running around busy ferrying DD3 to all the different classes All over Town .... It was a mad Life .....

Ever since DD3 enters P1 - Life has somehow stabilise. Less classes to attend (have to drop many classes - schedule clash).
DD3 makes the decision what she wants to continue and what to drop at the tender age of P1 (She's rather decisive and mature for her age - in fact, she was the one who requests to attend Most of these Classes herself since she's 4 years old).
But I got no Regret sending her to ALL these classes - she has tried them and knows exactly where her interest lies ....

You are right, in Primary school there is a lot of CCA's and Enrichment classes our kids can join - Some FOC, some co-payment, some full payment .... but you get to choose and decide.
But there are other temptation like Overseas School Immersion Programme - my DD3 is asking me to fork out 1k+ to go to Taiwan for ~4 days at the year end (parents not accompanying) ..........
She has missed both the Surabaya and Chende (China) trips due to her Rhythmic Gym Competition schedule .....

She is currently taking Chinese Creative Writing Tuition (once a week), Chinese Dance at NAFA ($500+ per semester, once a week), Rhythmic Gymnastics (3x a week - school team training, Private Gym - once a week, $500+ for 3 mths). So I guess the expense has been greatly reduced in Primary school.

Unless you want to send your kids to private tuition for every subjects - I have spoken to My DD3 classmate's Dad and he told me that he spent 3k per child every month on Private Tuition Alone! (and he has 2 primary school kids at the time! Whew!) - excluding Enrichment Classes .....

As for my Upper Secondary DS, They have mind of their own. They decide that Tuition is not for them, would rather study with their friends (form their own study Group).
DS1 is crazy over ANIME (Japanese cartoons) and spent most of his spare time & money on it. He collects ANIME figurines which he ordered directly from Japan and has his own glass case to display them.
DS2 is into Computer Games (Internet) \"Big Time\" and spent ALL his Spare time at Home facing the LCD Screen.
Of course you have to factor in ALL the Outings they have to join their friends, extras $$$$ ....

But I know that Secondary School Private Tuition is at Least 2 times more expensive than Primary School - So it depends on how extensive you want your kids tuition to be. Also, if your kiddo is an exceptionally talented child, say, in violin, the monthly fees to be coached by a professional can be up to 3k per month.

Afraid you have to do your Maths when the time comes when your kids reach the grand old age of Secondary School - All the fees will be different by then, I guess .....

      WAH!!!

Reading this really scare me. Make me feel even more firm about my decision to have just 1 child only. I had wanted a boy but now Grace would be fine enough.

I rather give everything to her than not enough for 3.

I am really surprised primary school and they are going to taiwan. I only went to taiwan when I was in the army.

I dont know what to say when it comes to her time especially she is a girl. I cannot imagine her at 9 yrs old going oversea without any parents...

Am glad that you have not regrets sending them to enrichment classes...I am thinking about starting mine on some...she is only 8 months old.

        1. Age of kid: 2.5 yrs

        2. Childcare/Preschool/Kindergarten: about $680

No enrichment classes atthe moment...but am keen on expose him to tennis lessons...any parent here know of any good providers? Think there is one at Marina Square which provides lessons for children abiove 3 year old...

        Thanks!
We have tried Mr Tots Tennis (Turf City) and (East Coast Park) both are good, cost 350.00 or so per term. Its air conditioned and the coaches are pretty good. We have been there for only one term much of which was wasted due to illness and a long trip but hoping to see some improvement in co-ordination by the end of next term... Some 3 year olds who have been there for two or three terms are pretty good at hitting the sponge ball back to the coach. 🙂

            Eason Magpies,

sometimes, by giving a child a sibling, you will be giving him/her other precious gifts in the form of companionship and skills such as communication and lower stress level etc...think we have another thread all about this. 😉

My son is the ‘king’ for 4 years before younger sister came along. He had a hard time adjusting. Before she was born, I kept reinforcing and reminding the fact that he is ‘gor gor’ and that he must look after mei mei…so much so that mei mei has climbed on his head and now he fights back bcos he is frustrated. I know my younger one is very much tougher than him and I have to discipline her more.

                golfer:

currently , i m spending $600 / mth for my kindergarten children. hope when they enter primary level , the expenses will reduce?
                Should be reduced, lah.

Our 2yo ds has 1 music play class and 1 chinese playgroup for abt a total of S$250pm.

But our 3 older kids(pri/sec) total only S$1000 and not much classes!
                dd - zero classes
                ds1 - violin + chinese tuition
ds2 - science tuition + 2 chinese music instrument lessons.

And school fees so cheap. Sec only like s$20pm, and pri even cheaper, right?

Oh, I almost forgot. All 3 have Karate, but that's only S$60 for 10 weeks for each child. Not expensive lah.

Btw, I would like to share with all a cost effective method for kids to learn Phonics

                  Phonics:
When son was 2 YO, I started to expose him to http://www.starfall.com for phonics and got a Audio CV on phonics from Popular bookstore. We have the cv played in the car every times he is in the car ride every morning and evening for him to sing along. Guess what, he was able to pick up phonics very well! He is able to read on his own now and dare to try to pronounce new words. My #2 now is only 1.5YO learning to talk is also trying to sing out the phonics 'A' 'C' 'D'...etc!

Investment less than $20 and it is like attending classes everyday!
I want to thank mamachris. This website that you have posted months ago came to my benefit. Now everyday as dw to play it to my kid also. 1 letter a day. She seems to like T the best... 😄

I will look out for CD at popular too...
