there will always be exception cases, especially if there's hardly any exposure at home. not sure why but children can simply become disinterested suddenly.
a friend son did reasonably well throughout pr school and got into a SAP school. This yr sec 3 and he is failing as many as 5 subjects during midyr, incl chinese and english. Already kena warned that if cannot pass this SA2 (need a pass for Eng too!!), then gotta find new school coz SAP school no 'normal' stream.

Wish your friend finds out his/her son's reason for declining results and help him improve in time. If he continues failing 5 subjects including English, even going to another school with \"normal\" chinese, he may not do well in O Level overall?there will always be exception cases, especially if there's hardly any exposure at home. not sure why but children can simply become disinterested suddenly.

For those who qualified for the IP schools, they wouldn't be too weak in their Chinese. otherwise their T scores will be pull down significantly and will not meet the COP of IP schools.
My boy falls into this category- weak in Chinese, strong in other subjects. He spent the first 3 years in a non-SAP pri sch, P4 to P6 in a SAP pri sch, now taking HCL in NJC. Since P5, his grades in Normal Chinese and Higher Chinese were below the cohort's avg. His PSLE grades are A in Chinese, Merit in HCL, A* in EL/MA/Sc. Now in NJC, his HCL score is still below cohort's avg. Overall GPA is still considered good becos of his strength in other subjects. -

well, the boy ever gave the excuse that the world is coming to an end in 2012

he needs to be counselled to find out whether sports is really his true love
if he has been doing fine in his studies previously, the sudden failure is usually brought on by teenagers' issues like BGR, family disharmony, distractions like sudden interest in sports or hobbies.....etc, sometime a little more than some advice on time management and setting the right priorities may help -

This is not the first time I heard this message from sec school students which affect their results. Wonder where ithe source is and if it has been predicted by scientist. It seems quite common now and feel school needs educate the students mindset as a whole.

If that's his Real Love, (Not just an Excuse !) He could consider to transfer to SPore Sports School - not to say that SSS is less academic-inclined, but he could balance his studies & Sports training.wonderm:

well, for sports, there's a distinct diff between being in love with it and talented in it
for his case, I sense that it's just escapism after much discussion with the dad. -
Anyone has just received confirmation for dsa to Hwa Chong, when its in Primary five now?
