All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Hi janet, if you are under phase 2B, it is almost guarantee as there is no balloting for phase 2B so far but phase 2C is tough, may ballot within 1 km with all the new pte properties around the school.
If I can register my daughter in SCGS, that would be great bcos it's much nearer home. -
missymorr:
edrickelleon - agree with you totally! its not the end of the world and yes we did our best already.. i was pre-empting myself if i did not get chosen, i will just try other schools during the 2C and hoping my luck in balloting will be better
There is balloting for RL's phase 2B. The risk is still there. -

If you are the parent volunteer, would you like to think that you are adding value to your choice of school or being exploited?
Hmmm... thus the higher/demanding standards/targets for new PVs every year...
High Supply/Low Demand thingy... I think it's a fine line between value-added and exploitation.

Hi alng,
So Phase 2B for RGPS and SCGS is the same - guaranteed a seat. Thatβs nice. -
janet_lee88:
I am not too sure about RGPS. SCGS has just started to accept phase 2B PV so not much competition yet. I am not sure for subsequent years.Hi alng,

janet_lee88,edrickelleon,
Yup 100% agree. If we can and are chosen to do PV, tha'ts great. But if PV application is rejected, then nothing we can do. Next thing is proximity to school. We should still do our best and coach kids in their studies regardless of school...there is this thing called transfer. So if results are good, school of choice will still take him/her in.
my boy's P1 results were good, and yet, the school of choice still puts us on the super long waiting list for transfer; and for that, it also reflects that the sch is much into character building and not so academic-driven. hence, i think niche in students' area of specialty that suits the sch will give the kid a better chance of transfer than results, cos i guess to most schools, they see good scores in lower pri as very common and also, with the scrapping of examinations, what do parents have to show the school in the transfer appeal? -

If pri1 reg success... then it's value add.

So SCGS only started taking PV this year for Yr2006 kids? Then wasted for those parents in earlier year. Don't remember seeing SCGS balloting history in the forum... is there one?

SCGS former principal did not accept phase 2B PV in the past. They may have a few phase 2B PV on and off in the past years but I do not remember SCGS having to ballot at phase 2B over the last few years. For Yr 2005 kids, there are a few PVs right now but these few will not take up all the phase 2B vacancies.
For Yr 2006 kids, SCGS has put up in its website the phase 2B PV application form inviting parents to apply. So we can expect more PVs competing with Grassroots in phase 2B in subsequent years. -

Thanks... found the history stats... was surprised that it's under Tanjong Pagar GRC... duh... seems quite far apart...
