i couldn’t agree more but i also keep reminding myself and my boy that ultimately it is the psle that we are all working towards…so nevermind about position in class now… the main thing here is to maintain his own standard in all the subjects…

hello fellow parents,
Just want to check with you... Are extra lessons etc... necessary?
My dd is in P1. Never been to enrichment classes. Seems to be coping. Above average , not top of the class but ok. Would the curriculum be so much more difficult to cope with later on, in P2 and beyond?
Progress report seems to be all Bs and Cs. Not one A :(. Is that normal? -
Shoe,
I am like you. I’m really worried because somehow I feel that the school isn’t doing a fantastic job for EL. Ok, maybe I shouldn’t expect fantastic… a decent job will be good enough. The children are required to do written expression based on 3-picture and my dd only had 1 practice on it last week. To my knowledge, 1 picture written expression is the norm for p1s because at this age, they are not mature enough to narrate a story in the right sequence. Some of the kids in her class basically just copy the helping words to the writing page. -
hi Shoe.
I am in the same position as you.
grading in progress card is mostly Cs, a few Bs, slightly above average in class.
No enrichment classes at all. But I do sign up those Sat classes run by external centre. Somehow, my child feedback that for mandarin its coping the words from the board into the worksheets and not very helpful towards his school work. Thus, I doubt we will sign up during P2.
think what is impt is the comfortablitiy of the child. if they show no diff in the school work, we will not send them for additional classes.
cheers

The grades in progress report depends on the respective teacher's grading standard too. I realised that DS's grades for Chinese has a number of As term3 as compared to term1 probably due to the change in chinese teacher.
Best is to talk to the teacher and clear your doubt. If you are fetching your kid from school, should be quite easy to catch the teachers. Else, drop them a mail

P2 Retell Story
My girl did very badly on this last term. Does anyone know if we can ask for another chance since this is included in the SA marks. Thanks. -
Strictly by the description of the grades, it is pretty tough to get an A. To get a B is considered quite good. In fact, even a C is considered okay. Don’t get unduly worried over the grades.
Agreed with Baong, always check with the teachers when in doubt.
SY mum, thought usually the kids are asked to do twice and the better grades will be taken in for the SA marks? It is the case for the P1’s show & tell and poem recitation. Not so sure for P2. Again, check with the teacher. -
Have check with teacher already but she said that she will choose the better grade.
