      Tinkerbelle:
      Callie Tan:

      hi Mommies,

      1. Read that it s competitive to do speech n drama. May i know what does
      this mean??

      2. Stil prefer the traditional way of getting the school books and uniforms.
Do we still go to the shop in TPY? Which blk??

      3. Is it a must to wear the socks with MCS logo?

      4. Assembly is not required daily? Only 3 times a week? So the girls go to
their classrooms directly for the other 2 days?

      5. I thought P5 is in the morning session so how are they able to assist
our girls during recess time? May i know the timing and normal duration
      for the recess?

      6. Do we need to pay for the swimming lessons?

Sorry that I have so many questions.. hope Tinkerbelle or JonC can help. Thanks!!

      Hi Callie Tan,

      :welcome:

      1) For Speech & Drama CCA, there are limited vacancies. The Drama club can only take in a total of 30 pupils. The pupil will need to attend an audition and selection is based on her performance. For P1 & P2, the audition requires the pupil to give a brief introduction of herself - name and class, followed by reciting a nursery rhyme OR telling a short story with some acting skills displayed (not more than 3 minutes). The pupil can refer to a script. :please:

      2) School text books can be bought at the school book shop or Pacific Bookstore in Ayer Rajah. The school will distribute a textbook list and specific dates will be allocated for each level to buy their textbooks. You can actually pre-order (without payment) and self-collect from MCS at a later date. This way, when you rock up, the box is all packed & ready and the staff will just check through the books with you. If you don't pre-order , you'll need to wait for them to search & pack all the items. Pacific Bookstore also does delivery for a fee.

Alternatively, you can buy your textbooks from Popular Bookstore. There's a 5% discount on textbooks for members. However, do ensure you have the booklist with you to check that you're buying the right edition (eg. 2nd edition). If you buy the wrong edition (eg. 1st edition), your DD will not know which page to follow or do as the teacher is using a different edition. As for exercise books, you'll still need to buy them from MCS. Some parents I know will buy the exercise books from school and save $$$ on the textbooks. :moneyflies:

Uniforms can be bought at United Uniforms at Toa Payoh Lorong 1, Blk 168, #01-1034. No need to rush out to buy yet. The school will give you a form with prices and measurements before orientation. You will also need to fill in the form for the name tags. They are colour coded according to your level. At this juncture, I'm not sure if the school has decided on the colour for 2011's P1 yet. FYI, the name tags cannot be collected immediately. If it's peak season, they'll only be available for pick-up in 5-7 days. On collection, just bring your uniform along and they'll sew it on for you on the spot for free.

      3) No need to wear socks with MCS logo.

      4) Yes, assembly only 3 times a week. For P1, it's Monday, Wednesday and Friday (for non Catholics). Catholics have catechism classes on Wednesday so they miss out on assembly and go straight to their catechism class. For the other 2 days, the gals go straight to class for Form Teachers' Time.

      5) P5 is in the morning session but they stay back after school for the first 3 days of school to buddy the P1. The usual time for recess is 3-3.30pm for P1 but for the first 3 days, they'll have an extended recess of 1hr.

      6) Yes, need to pay for swimming lessons and all other PE3 activities. The school will subsidise half the cost and the other half can be duducted from your child's Edusave account.

Hope I have clarify your doubts. πŸ˜„

      :thankyou: Thanks for sharing

              Hi funkymonkey, cantbearit2 & acbj,

Ya, how I wish I can attend their PE lessons too. Our DDs are very fortunate to have opportunities to be exposed to such cool sports. Back in my days, fencing was an elite sport.

Imagine my surprise when my DD told me about sports chanbara, I was like :? Maybe I'm ignorant because I've never heard of this sports before. DD told me it is Japanese fencing that the samurai practiced. I'm fine with it as long as she doesn't start doing this :pokeeye: at home.
haha...same for me. fencing was unheard of for PE lessons during our era.

I have also nv heard of sports chanbara. hee...sua ku. πŸ˜‰

                Hi acbj,

No worries....we are all the same here....kiasu. πŸ˜‰

Swimming in MCS is conducted during school hours before recess.
4 periods of PE are allocated for the swimming lessons. If I recall correctly, lessons are from about 9.30AM to 11.30Am. This includes transportation to and from school, changing, warm-ups, swimming and showering & changing after the lesson.

The gals will have their recess on the bus on the way back to school. Lessons will resume once they return to school.

                Hi Tinkerbelle,

4 periods of PE???? Every year it's a different kind of activity for PE right? Does all the activity have 4 periods of PE as well??? Love to have PE lessons during my time. πŸ˜‰

                Hi cantbearit2,

They have 6 periods of PE per week. 4 periods are allocated for PE3 programme on Wednesday and the other 2 periods are on 2 separate days where half the class are doing the usual PE activities like running, ball games etc and the other half are doing gymnastics. :rahrah:

For the P1 & P2, they have another 3 periods for Mass PE on Wednesday (where the P1 & P2 do activities together in the hall).

Each year, students participate in different activities for PE3. By the time they get to P6, they will be a well-rounded sportswoman. πŸ˜‰[/quote]Wow!!! Thanks for sharing. :thankyou:

The sports in MCS are one of the main reasons we enrol DD in MCS. DH will be very pleased. All the more confident that DD will love the sch!!!

But I wonder for all the other sch, how many periods of PE they allocate each week. Any mummy or daddy can share?
