My child has been using Kumon for a while. We liked it at the beginning. It helped my child in math calculation skills. But over time, the benefit is no longer that visible and we feel more pressure on its monthly bills. Then we accepted the advice from our neighbor, and started to do the worksheets on Beestar. To my surprise, she loves the 10 quick questions very much and it really helps kids thinking. Pretty great. Plus, I also don’t have to drive her to kumon, saving much time.

After seeing some postive feedback here, I enrolled my 3yr + daughter at kumon last week. During the orientation, the lady told me each session is 30mins for twice a week. I found it quite ok to try out. Now already attended two session this week, but the lady called me shortly after 15 mins to pick up my daughter. I questioned the lady why not 30 min, she told me my girl is not ready. I do not feel is worth the money 2hrs for $120?? a month. Any advice from parents here whether I should continue or wait until she is ready?

Not ready in what sense? Not adapting to classroom environment or in terms of doing worksheets?
Actually it's not really 2 hours for $120 since Kumon teachers do not 'teach'. The child does some worksheets in center, collect more worksheets as homework.
To me, it's more like a structured programme for home learning because the child is suppose to do worksheets at home daily
When my dd was doing Kumon, we opt for once a week, basically to submit homework and pick up more worksheets. No time to go twice a week -

A parent friend who sends her girl to kumon also tells me the same thing,My child has been using Kumon for a while. We liked it at the beginning. It helped my child in math calculation skills. ie. initially, there is improvement in mental calculations but as time passes,
no more visible improvement and the child gets bored sometimes doing the repetitive questions. -

True. There is only so much arithmetic a child can learn. After the initial sprout of positive results, its effectiveness tapered off & I feel that there's no point chasing levels after levels. I think the same goes for abacus
