Do U care about AWARE?
-
The Old AWARE have played a masterful game in painting this as an extreme Christian rightwing takeover. Whilst the players that be do indeed draw their beliefs from Christianity, the fact is Old Aware had deviated from their mission and were introducing teachings in schools which I am frankly uncomfortable with. Ask my mum and MIL, both non-Christian, and both completely appalled at what old Aware had been promoting previously, including screenings of shows like Spider Lillies. Sorry, raising my kids is tough enough, don’t need school based programmes to do gender programming for me.

 Good alternative views.
At KSP, we welcome alternative views.
Like what Chief said, we are inclusive...parents/kids/singles/vendors-who-doesn't-post-on-each-and-every-related-thread-using-big-fonts......all welcome.
Actually the ST Coverage of this news is getting a bit stale....the ACN and \"EW\"-NN exclusive is however, a Gem!

Caveat: This is not my fight as I personally have not encountered any of their programs or issues that they pursue. My opinions are based on my media following after this saga came to light.
one pt to highlight that being adults in this forum we shd agree to disagree in an agreeable manner... think tis is quoting one of the minister's comment.
3boys just curious to know if u hv spoken wif the school regarding ur concern with the content? and wat is their response? asking becos my son will be entering the school system soon... Juz wanna find out if there are redtapes?

insider:
DW taught sex education to her kids who are on the integrated programme. Based on the program she taught, it is similar to what insider described. The main theme is saying no to premarital sex and it is alright to say no to premarital sex.
My daughter’s feedback on CSE that she had attended:
1.\tSay ‘NO’ to premarital sex.
2.\tTalk about risk of premarital sex – teenage pregnancies with emphasis on STD esp the fatal AIDS. They watched a short film on teenage pregnancies.
3.\tShe couldn’t remember anything about homosexuality as the strong message is no premarital sex.
4.\tIf a girl die die also must do sex with her boyfriend, then it is very important to have protected sex (but the key theme is always say “NO” to premarital sex).
Like what I had shared before, her all girls’ school has issues of lesbian, teenage pregnancies, abortion, self-mutilation, eating disorders, etc. Her comment about the CSE is “nothing much as most are common sense and general knowledge and good for those who have no exposure to such information and it also serves as a reminder to those who are promiscuous”.
“No big deal” is her conclusion.
Her school sent out a memo with some details along with a consent form to parents and we have a choice to opt in or out.
Kids shd be saying no to premarital sex not because they were taught to do so, but by providing information to them, they will want to say no to premarital sex.
Homosexuality and lesbianism are covered because they exist, whether they are talked abt them or not. Some kids are at a stage where they are unsure of their sexuality, rather than having these kids look for information on their own from the net or their own resource, the program aims to give them basic knowledge on the sexualities that exist in a controlled content environment.
I understand that schools have designated school counsellors who are available to speak to kids on any issues.
I understand that there are a few vendors who are eligible content providers for the CSE program, and the olders kids content as I was told covers more on social issues... If generally the approach is as described above, I should not have any concerns with this. I agree that if an issue exists, it will not go away by not speaking abt it, rather we should acknowledge the issue exists and teach our kids how to handle the issues instead.
Just my opinion. -

I will reserve my comments... I will only say that I find their words conflicting with their actions.sermon recording of Pastor Derek Hong:
http://sggutterpress.blogspot.com/2009/04/leaked-video-on-coos-pastor-sermon-on.html
Extract from wayang party:
During the same sermon last Saturday, he told a crowd of 5,000, he compared homosexuals to thiefs, drunkards and liars:
“No where in the bible is homosexuality condoned. Every time the practice of homosexuality is mentioned, there is strong prohibition and judgement, right through the bible. At the same time, it is very clear that homosexual practice is not seen as the worst kind of sin, in fact God doesn’t grade sins, all sin is sin. So homosexuality is like other wrongdoings like idolators, thiefs, drunkards, liars are included in the same breath as homosexual offenders.” -
I just read the NST today about MOE probing the sexuality programe by Aware arising out of an online petition going on to re-look at it’s programe in schools where one part says "practicing anal sex can be healthy…etc etc etc" Whether we are Christian or non-Christian, i believe parents do not wish our children to become either a gay or lesbian . At least something good has come out of this saga, parents are now more "aware" of such programmes that are being brought to our innocent children.

Parents, before you get further misled by all the media reports on the saga pointing to catfights, Christianity and all.... you draw your own conclusion as a parent after reading this:

The actual issue has been missed and I am glad to learn from westmom that MOE is NOW relooking into this. I really don't care about AWARE which has degenerated into petty issues, I am only concerned about what my kid is potentially picking up from programmes that MOE is rolling out.
Propagating anal sex is healthy....... is certainly not our cup of tea....my hubby was completely speechless when he read this. -
In case you can't reach the page Ks2me is referring to, here's the addy -

Honestly, I feel the harsh judgement towards the New Guards has been too quick and unjust. -

Thanks for the link.. I am interested to look at the CSE materials. Not sure if there is a std version tho cos I asked DW and she said the module that she delivered did not touch on anal sex.Parents, before you get further misled by all the media reports on the saga pointing to catfights, Christianity and all.... you draw your own conclusion as a parent after reading this:
