All About Montessori

Hi buds
I chanced upon a old thread by sunny asking you
"Hi buds
also, in a montessori based school, is it important that the principal needs to be montessori trained? or only the experience of the teachers is the most important? I was really puzzled when I found out that the new principal of my kidsβ school is not montessori trained and yet she is hired to manage a montessori school."
would like to know your views. currently, amazing star at cck has a new principal who is not montesorri trained. but she said the teachers are all experienced and trained, so should not be an issue. Is this true?
thanks!!! -
buds,chatelaine,
its always good to live on own right especially when have kids, speaking from my own experiences now-> in law no matter sis or mother always like to interfer with my teaching, feeding, cooking methods

Will the Principal herself be teaching students?
It is extremely helpful for Principals running or managing Montessori
centres to have some knowledge at least on the methodology. She is
after all the person parents get to see at the reception or during inquiries
and walk-through sessions. While i can understand that she is new & may
jolly well be learning abt the methodology as she goes along... it is definitely
an asset to have a Montessori trained Principal if possible.
I have met a few who didn't know what they're talking about during my
look-sees and gave me a horrible impression of their knowledge... and
some didn't even let me cut in to tell them it's okay, no need to churn
out everything you memorized... i am Montessori trained.
But
since, to me personally it is more important for the teacher in charge
to be knowledgable as SHE will be the one teaching my child. So, go
test the teacher!
I like to see fully equipped Montessori materials in classroom shelves.
Arranged in colour coded fashion and materials arranged from easy
peasy ones to difficult ones (arranged from left to right)...
I like clean classrooms without dust..
With or without children's work on the walls is ok but would like to see
children's work even if from teacher's pile... i don't mind. I like to see
a good and systematic curriculum + worksheets wherever possible.
I like to see smiling and cheerful teachers who can speak decent Eng..
Extra points for those who speak well of course. I love crafts! I like
to see children are exposed to doing different kinds of arts and crafts esp
for PG and Nursery classes... not just worksheets.
In sessions, i like to see children independently working with materials &
an observant directress going around facilitating children as they work...
occasionally engaging individual or groups with activities or in soft private
conversations and sharings..
A good Montessori teacher can facilitate her lessons well and ensure all
children are engaged in purposeful work at all times... and most times
the children are oblivious to any form of distractions which includes
walk-ins from visitors/parents. -

Hi Joeyz18, you could have started up a conversation with the CL teacher
and ask her, \"So.... what will you be doing for your lesson today?\"
See if she perks up and shares with you spontaneously.. I do that during
visits as long as the teacher is not physically teaching the class at that
time. I'm happy when the teacher smiles and invites me to see what
she has in store for the day's lesson (or something she already did
with the children that day).

Buds,
Hi! As you are the resident expert on MOntessori, can I ask you some questions?
Am thinking of putting my gal for the PCF sembawang 309 which runs the Reggio Emilia approach... Was prowling the net and seems like it is always compared to Montessori... do you think they more or less achieve the same results? Using student-centered approach to cultivate independent learners through self - directer learning?
Thanks!
