Belief in mortal is love, idolise,... blind faith

      Unless proven guilty is innocent.

This week was supposed to be a week of rest for me. Yet, my mind was raided with so many events around me. The OTC affair, as I’d call it is one.

OTC is not just an ACS(I) principal from afar for me. I know his wife and his children reasonably well. Even so, I cannot say that I know his character enough to vouch that he is not capable of any wrong doing. But the point is, it didn’t matter whether he was guilty or not in this case. The point is, my support for him remains, even if he had faltered. No matter what the evidences are, I’ll believe in what he says, because I know he is not capable of lying.

When DS1 was given a place both in RI and ACS(I), it was OTC’s second son who encouraged my son choose the former as he was from RI himself. OTC tried to persuade me to put DS1 into ACS(I) at that time, since my son did top the HAST and was a medalist and State representative in his sport. Nevertheless, I choose RI over ACS(I) for these reasons:
          1. It was nearer my home.
          2. I am a loyal ex-Rafflesian.
          3. I didn’t want Uncle TC to be Principal OTC or Dr Ong as well. Because, I know this Chinese saying: 树大招风。 And, no matter how upright you try to be, there will be some who will seek to damage you, your reputation and your family. I’ve lived long enough, and been in high positions enough to witness and experience this myself. When that happens (like now), it will be harder for me to explain to DS1 why upright Uncle TC is facing all these. BTW, I also know the ex-RI principal, but not enough to have to answer all these questions should they arise.

A person should be judged by the fruits he bears. Look around ACS(I), you’d seen his hands in every little detail. Granted, he had a good staff, but remember, he chose his team well, and he provided the leadership. Listen to his staff and students about how he would go an extra mile to ensure they did well. Look at his family, his young adult children are what we, Kiasuparents hope our children will turn out one day - despite all the hiccups along the way (who has none?). Don’t pinpoint one or two incidents, look at the broader picture. His work is exemplary by all accounts.

I still have two young primary school children in ACS(J) and ACS(P) who might go to ACS(I) one day, and now that OTC is no longer there, I have one less obstacle if you have read above. Yet, ACS(I) may no longer be a school I would consider, since I don’t know who will helm it next. OTC was a great leader with a trustworthy character. Unless the next principal shows equal credentials in these aspects, I may not even consider applying for DSA.

So, be a little kinder my friends. 3Boys kept reminding us this week. Give the man a chance. I KNOW he well deserves your compassionate heart. Let’s not be ugly Singaporeans.

I wonder why people need to be so sensitive over such news ? why so defensive ?

As it is said, the jury is till out, who knows what is the outcome ? Over defensive and over sensitive in a pre-mature situation only speaks of …

Exactly. The jury is out, we should all give this a rest, instead of innuendo and pesky, lurid, uninformed speculation. OTC is not here to defend himself, so there is nothing wrong for folk to stand up for him if it seems he is being maligned prematurely. That is called fair play.

I am not trying to defend the indefensible.

My view is as others, the resignation likely indicates there was some element of his conduct that will not be acceptable to the school or public.

Unlike some other posters in other forums, I take no joy in this. Could he be called a hypocrite? How many times have our own actions not matched our words? We are all hypocrites to one extent or another, but we strive to be better people and hope our own children may exceed us in this regard as well.

As a public figure in a leading position, one cannot have any chink in the armour, one cannot let one’s guard down, particularly in personal conduct. It is a tough and demanding place to be.

It is a fall from grace, one that is hard to stomach, because we have precious few role models in society. OTC, likely can no longer be considered as one, and the school is the poorer for it. That is the tragedy.

It is yet another reminder of the high responsibilities that such office bearers carry, (reminder the HP CEO?) and the high standards of conduct expected.

If he has done wrong, he needs to bear full responsibility. That may well be the case. But I find the voyeurism, gleeful hand-rubbing and lip smacking really hard to stomach…

…the man does not answer to us, I do not qualify myself to be his judge, jury and executioner…

I have great admiration for Durai who created NKF from nothing, who pioneered TV charity donation drive from scratch. His track record is sparkling.

MingYi took the challenge to run Ren Ci. Something that is as tough as climbing the highest mountain. The result is great.

However, as the image grows, so will be the expectation. To err is human. However, if the mistake is major, especially not due to accidental oversight, the cry from the public will be louder.

                    This I agree.

BUT this forum is definitely not meant as such an avenue for public outcry.

Can we all stop discussing it?

                      You all see the point?

This is how stigma in homosexuality can cause harm. It can be exploited as a weapon against the person someone dislike regardless of his ability and contribution to the society or the organisation.

Please don't beat me. I am not concluding that OTC is really involved in homosexuality affairs but just saying that it can be exploited to defame a rival unfairly.

What has this got to do with homosexuality? If there is implication of involvement with a female teacher, the problem will be the same. Its a matter of personal conduct, not homosexuality.

Let's see further that if it is homosexuality that makes the issue worse than involvement with female teacher. Either this or that homosexuality has elvoled into such a non-issue in Singapore.

I have other comments but I'll wait for the jury first.

people should be aware what is going on

some can choose to read and go away

some can choose to read and defend it / him / her

some can choose to read and express opinion

some can choose to read and quote other information

some can simply ignore it and pretend nothing has happened
