I Can Read - Discussion

Monster Mummy:
thank you very much. You are right. My dd might not understand the meaning even if she can decode and read. Thanks monster mummy.Hi,
The ICR programme is picking the skills of decoding and how to read by different sound. It is not just as simple as what they have learn in the prp.
But at the age of 4 years for your child, the child must be picking up fast.
Basically, the aim for this programme is engage the children to read and decode.
To my point of view, it is quite efficient for a kid but at the younger age, there bound to some words they know how to read but does not know the meaning. -
Hi,
It is okay for the child to promote to learn new things as if she emphasis them to stay at the old place. It will bore them.
Even my girl promote to PRP around 4 yrs plus, she also take around one year to promote. So no worry. Just that as a mummy, I worry for her so end up, i feel that I should not worry as my comparison is with her brother. That should not be.
therefore, let them move at their own pace. -

I suppose this message in meant for me. Thks for your response
Actually I also wanted my child to be promoted to learn new things. However, what the teacher said (her age and more difficult work at the PRP level) has put me in a dilemma
She has been at the TCS level for 6 mths and now wasted 1 more mth at this level due to her age (as mentioned by teacher). Seems like I need to check with her teacher again.
Have a nice day! -
Hi,
It is always good to communicate with the teacher as I think that promote to PRP also take sometime for the child to learn the new things. -
Monster Mummy:
Thanks montster mummy. For the past few days, I have been asking DS to try reading very simple books ( simple words sentence in each page), at first he was reluctant but after practising few days, he can read at a very very slow pace, sometimes with my help in decode/blending words. But I am very pleased with the result already.....Now, I make sure he reads 2 simple books every eveningHi DC Mummy,
Your child must be progress very fast. When my girl join in TCS, she take around 2 terms to promote to PRP. FOr PRP as what you have mentioned that it is more blending sound so no worry, it is rather take a good foundation then later, the kid forgotten. Because ICR is more of blending and decoding because it is more of need practise.
Last lesson, PRP teacher feedback to me need to practise the first letter sound at a faster speed with DS. Think need to read the first sound for all letters wthin 20 seconds. DS is slow in speed, previous timing took 31 - 35 seconds to complete the letter sound. -

I just need advise on Icr. My dd is 4 years and attending nursery. She joins the tcs programme for 3 months and promoted to prp. After 1 month in prp the I can read centre told me that she is promoted to icr level. Can someone advise me on how effective is the icr programme and at what age is usually kids start icr. Thanks.
Isn't that amazing. Your DD took shorter time in PRP (1 month) than TCS (3 month)? I thought PRP is more challenging than TCS for their age..........Is your DD good in motor skill as well?
DS teacher feedback that he needs to improve his motor skill before he can be promoted to ICR. Although my DS is youngest in the PRP class (3 yrs 8 months) he can understand and follow the lesson well. However, as informed by the teacher, his motor skill is poor. I heard they need to write when promote to ICR level..... -

Hi DC Mummy
Yes, in ICR level, student will encourage writing because they need to go through spelling every week from their weekly learning as well as some writing. -
Hi,
Anyone has feedback on Pandan Valley branch? -
hi
My gal is completing her 1 year ICR programme soon. I heard that she would be grouped together with the P1 2011 children next year to form a P1 ICR class.
Any idea what they will be teaching in that ICR class and whether would it still be beneficial? My girl is already fluent with reading. I am thinking of stopping her ICR class after this term but not sure if there are new stuff that they will be learning in the P1 ICR class
Thanks
