2011 P1 Registration Exercise for 2012 In-Take
-
Hi Hi
If you have the following choices for a DS, which would you choose:-
(1) Phase 1 for Nanyang (coz DD is already in NY)
(2) Phase 2A2 for Catholic HIgh (plus CHS is < 1km from my place)
I have 3 DSs altogether, so the next 2 will folllow suit to whichever school.
Factors i need to consider are:-
DS is pretty bright and I think that the teaching style in NY would challenge him; and
The unexpected high demand for CHS this year scares me a little.
If let’s say at the last minute for Phases 2A2 i decide that i have little chance at CHS and decide to go over to NY for Phase 2A2, although i was eligible for Phase 1, is that still ok? -

Based on what the MOE officer told me when I called in,
If let's say at the last minute for Phases 2A2 i decide that i have little chance at CHS and decide to go over to NY for Phase 2A2, although i was eligible for Phase 1, is that still ok?
If you miss the earlier phase that your child is eligible,
You must wait for the NEXT ELIGIBLE PHASE,
Which may not be 2A2,
Might be 2B (PV or GRL) or even 2C.
Which means that once you 'skip' Phase 1 at NYPS,
Then go back at another phase,
Your application will be processed with the rest,
No priority given.
If your DS is bright,
He will be able to cope in NYPS.
And logistically,
Sending 2 kids to the same school is easier.
Demand for CHS is really unpredictable.
You can register at Phase 1 NYPS first,
Then keep checking at CHS.
However,
High likelihood,
CHS is too risky when you already have NYPS. -

Just curious, supposing you qualify for Phase 2A2 for Catholic High, wouldn't that mean you are 99% confirmed of a place there ? If Catholic High has affiliated sec school, I would go for CH.Hi Hi

I'd register DS in NYPS at Phase 1, then monitor the situation at CHS. If no balloting is required in P2A2, then I'd withdraw DS from NYPS and go for CHS.Hi Hi

CHS is, I believe, as challenging academically as NYPS and it has a secondary school that your DS will go directly to. Unlike NYPS which has no affiliation with any secondary school for boys. And you have two more sons, which makes it worth it. Plus you live nearer to CHS then NYPS!
So far, we have not seen balloting at P2A2 yet. CHS seemed like it would achieve that distinction this year but it did not happen eventually. No one can tell if this year was a fluke or if the trend will continue or worsen. And if you register in NYPS first in Phase 1, and withdraw only if there is a 100% chance of your DS getting into CHS at Phase 2A2, there is no risk for you.
Also, note that unless you or your spouse are old students of NYPS, you would not be eligible for P2A2. So it isn't such that because you were eligible at Phase 1, you are eligible for all phases after. Best to seize the opportunity to register your DS at Phase 1 first.
Ahh... your dilemna and position makes you the envy of thousands of parents... if I were in your position, I'd be sleeping soundly every night!

Yup, both hubby and I were from CHS and NYPS respectively… so hence our "happy" problem.
I am leaning more towards CHS but just wary of the potential balloting if next year becomes even more fluke than this year. Thanks all for your views… to look on the bright side, even IF there was balloting, we are also within 1km of CHS. -

Perfect 'union'!
Wah! Next time I 'scan' through my boy's GFs, must make sure they come from good schools! Save the headache for my grandchildren's school! -
Urgent!!
Can anyone recommend me a public school for my nephew to join Primary 1 at phase 3 b/c P1 Registration has closed. As I would like to contact direclty to school for registering but I don't know which school is still accept international students at the moment.

You sounded so like one of my frens. The other day she was talking about doing PV for a popular school for her \"future generations\". We agreed that it's good that she is volunteeering for her kids. She reminded us that she's sacrificing her time not only for her kids, but for her grand kids, grand grand kids, etc. Once her kids are in the school and is an alumni, her \"future generations\" will all benefit. Wow.....such profound idea :idea:porcupine:

Please call MOE to enquire about availability, decide on which school you want, and then call the school.

Thanks for helping me. Actually, I did send emails to some schools in advance to ask for their vacancies.
The Mar Siling school replied and advised me to fill up the application form for my boy to be put on the waiting list. I'm a little bit hopeful.
Do u have any experiences about waiting list? How many percentage that my boy will be chosen?
Thanks.
