            hi mummies

I have a girl born 2008. i live at hillcrest and am intending to send my girl to RGPS, will need to apply tp do PV as we notice from this year’s registration, it seems that quite alot of people are within the 1km selection cos of all the new places coming up in this area.

a friend told me to consider MGS too because of the affiliation to the secondary school. is that something really worth considering ? cos to me I feel RGPS is a better school than MGPS (sorry if offend anyone here). but I’m not within 1lm to them. How do I join the church for the affiliation to Phase 2B ?

Sorry for being pessimistic, but my guess is that when you register in 2014, you are likely to have very little chance to enrol your DD in either MGS or RGPS if you do not live within 1km of the schools, even at Phase 2B. If you are adamant on one of these two choices, you should consider moving within 1km and become eligible for registration in P2B, to maximise your chances. Otherwise, have a backup plan.

I think both RGPS and MGS are good schools and it really depends on what you look for in a school and whether your DS is likely to enjoy the environment. Read the forums and talk to a lot of people and you should get a good idea of what each school is like. If I had a good shot at both, I'd go for MGS. Its affiliation to the secondary is a large pull factor for me - you'll be a little less stressed through PSLE!

To be eligible for P2B registration at MGS through a church affiliation, you will need to be a member of any Methodist church in Singapore. I believe both your DS and at least one parent will need to be baptised. Some churches will also want to see active participation before they will issue the letter.

Hope this helps and best of luck! 😄

I certainly agree with citygirl on this. The affiliation is a very BIG pull factor at PSLE...lesser stress at P6 bcos the child can get into the affiliated sec once she hits the minimum aggregate score.

Psst citygirl, it should be DD. Don't think MGS or RGPS will take in her DS. 😉

hi citygirl - thanks for the advise. I am within 1km of RGPS. I’m living in Hillcrest Road. It’s just that many people advise me on trying for MGS because of the continuation to Sec School. So I’m giving it some thought

                        Hi dardar63,

Allow me to give my personal opinion.

I’m staying within 1km to Pei Hwa…my son is there. But for my daughter who’s going to P1 next yr, we have registered her in my former school which has an affiliated secondary school. The reason is bcos there is less stress at P6 and if she does well in her PSLE, she can choose to go back to the affiliated sec school or another sec school. Up to her.

My son will have to work very hard in order to get into a good secondary school. For my daughter, I will want her to work hard to get into a good secondary class.
