Let me share this. Why the students can do so well in O level when the teachers are so lacking? Because the sec 4 teachers are very good. Sec 4 students have a lot of privileges. They communicate with teachers by SMS outside school. Have a question, just SMS and will be answered. If they are studying in school, they can go to the staff room to page for the teacher. They can even book the teacher’s time for extra ‘tutorial’. I’ve seen my dd go to school on sat, after school hours to as late as 8pm, and once during a designated school holiday. The teachers actually made a trip to the school to meet the students, be it individual, small or big groups. I am impressed. The gist is, if the student wants to learn, the teachers are there. One recent sat, my dd and friends stayed in school to study until 6pm, and found themselves locked in. They called a teacher who then made more calls and eventually managed to get the guard to return to the school to unlock the gate. The students love the teachers. They talk like friends.[/quote]
You are very fortunate to have encountered all the very good sec 4 teachers. I understand that a few can be considered good and experienced but the rest of them are just not up to par. Some parents who have kids at Sec 4 level told me that the teachers are quite slow and even completed the syllabus quite late compared to other schools. They said that they are lagging behind and that is why they students still have to attend school for an additional 2 weeks. Other students in schools like SJI, SCGS, Cat High etc stopped attending school from Oct 4 and are on study leave. In actual fact, they should ensure that they have good teachers at every level esp from Sec 1 to build a strong foundation. It is a tad bit too late to start teaching well only in Sec 4 if you ask me! -

Yes you are right! Sometimes i wonder if they are using the primary school uniforms coz they are so short!
i often go to toa payoh central, and every time i would not fail to spot these girls in grps
and they are def not the same grp of girls.....
pinafore with belts wearing at hips, funky hairstyle, some even being highlighted
talking and shouting at the top of their voices as if there were nobody ard
I am so amazed that the teachers do not notice and reprimand these students that are flouting the school rules with highlights, tattoos, even nose rings and tongue rings etc! The public can spot them a mile away! There must be some discipline instilled. If not, why bother to have any rules at all!

That would be nice! However, I doubt that you will find many IJ TP Sec teachers or parents or students on KSP for that matter!

In the primary school, the uniform is knee length. Maybe the parents didn't buy the girls new uniform in the secondary school...so that's why the uniforms are so short. :roll:
After PE, we had to wear the pinafore...but don't wear the belt for the next lesson bcos it was hot. However, we would put the belt again before leaving the classroom.
If the secondary school doesn't have disciplinary mistress, just take one teacher from the primary school...these girls will then have someone breathing down their necks to behave like ladies. -

My daughter is very petite…she can wear XS in nursery up till K1…now wearing only S size. Maybe her uniforms from Primary level can wear for several years unless she suddenly shoots up…if she goes to the Secondary school, can still wear them. HaHaHa.
As a former IJ girl, I would want her to dress and look like one DURING school hours as well as AFTER school. -

As for finishing syllabus late. Which class is this? Not that I know of. They are off next week, and is on schedule. The reason they are still having lessons is because the teachers want the students to maintain the momentum of working, giving them lots of practice papers, going thru certain topics that the students are weak in, etc. Even for next week's break, the students are encouraged to go back to school as per normal and study there. Why? Because if they study at home, they will most likely wake up late, have leisure breakfast and will not accomplish much. Like I mentioned, if the students are willing to work hard, the teachers are willing to help. My dds' teachers are also teaching other classes, so not only she got the good ones. The school is doing its best, let us parents not paint it in such negative light, especially in front of our dds. This will have an impact on their perception of the school and teachers and thus affect their attitude and learning. -
