      Chief's article about the singer sewing machine (see http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/sewing-machine) and today's news article about elderly women clearing plates at food courts/cleaning toilets leave me thinking if we kiasu parents could do something for them this Sunday.

      In your own small way this Sunday, wish these elderly women well (in case they scold you if you wish them happy mother's day :oops: ) and give them a small token to let them know that some segments of society have not fogotten them while we celebrate mother's day.

        Aye aye! My only add on to that is we don't have to wait for a special day like Mother's Day just to make life better for these hardworking people who are doing the jobs that none of us want to do.

          Well said, chief! And these same elderly women also face competition from cheaper, younger foreign workers. 😞

            Wow... I was just thinking today... Every morning on my way to work, I will go thru temple street at chinatown to head towards Maxwell mkt... Ever so often I would see this very old lady probably in her 80s, with whatever white strands of hair on her balding head bundled up behind her, skin darkened from the constant pushing of her cart under the sun, sitting by the roadside... carefully folding her stack of empty cardboard boxes.

            I thought of stopping my car at the side today to perhaps just hand her a $10 note, nothing much, but given how thrifty these old ladies can be... Thot would be a nice gesture to make her day. I have utmost respect for these gusty old ladies becos they are very independent and hardworking to just earn that few dollars daily to sustain their daily living.

            Will make a note to do just that the next time I see her 🙏

              hi zack, yes do it but after you make sure your car is safely parked. I've done so a couple of times for an elderly women in my neighbourhood. But sadly she has not been seen the last 2 years. Glad i was able to do something for her.

                ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                祝妈妈母亲节快乐!
                祝婆婆母亲节快乐!
                Thank you for penning down your feelings... I am thankful that I have less than 10 words that I am not familiar with 😓
                I like and totally agree with your quote in ps1 :goodpost:
                  Hi mathsparks... I will do that... Amid all the buzz and fuss of everyday life... We should always be conscious to slow down and do something nice for the people ard us... To be able to help others and seeing them smile... I am sure it will make this a better place to live in :love:
                  If there is one attribute that I would like my boys to have... It will be EMPATHY 🙏
                    Felt good today... Was running slightly late... But kept a look out for the old lady... She was sitted on the opposite side of the road, stopped my car temporarily into a parking lot and stepped out to hand her a $10.
                    When she held her hand out ... She was appreciative 😄
                    There are lots of people who feel left out and neglected... We cant help all of them, but when we are able to... Would be nice to show them that there are people who are willing to stop whatever we are doing to give them a helping hand 😄
