CCA is very important in Sec school because of the 2 bonus point cut off the L1R5 and L1R4. Without the 2 CCA bonus point cut, the disadvantage can be considerable.

English exercises were to be done in the morning for an hour or so everyday and after that the whole day would be his. Result - i think he did 4 or 5 pages and the rest was left undone! the latter 2 i bought to help with his new subjects. didn't use it even! they get notes from school plus the projects and assisgnments were enough to take up their time (and beyond) and not leave any for \"home\" assessments. I now know how different sec school is from primary. Of course, at the end of the day it is also about time management. something my ds is still struggling to get a grasp of. I sure hope he will. :xedfingers: But i did go through history with him by using (apart from his txtbk) the \"Companion Guide to the living past\" by Andrew Major and Lee Si Wei. Publisher Marshall Cavendish. Found the book quite helpful.

Thanks for the info. It looks somewhat futile to buy Sec 1 assessment books since they are likely to remain unused.

At the same time I feel very guilty to let 10 weeks of 'free tme' for DS to get wasted. It is alright to call it 'Destressing'. But is it really alright? I am not sure.

Yes, it is all right..my son is happily detressing. But I still get him to read newspapers and storybooks to keep his mind working. Cannot let him destress until his brain turns to mush..

can give some idea as to what kind of CCA/level of participation is required to attain this 2 bonus points ? DS is very indoor, if he doesn't join sports/performance/uniform, will he be disadvantaged ?

Besides sport and uniformed groups, performaning Arts and Clubs and Scocieties also able to gain CCA point, more points will be given if you participate in competition (eg SYF) or performance, additionally if you are committee member more points will be given. DD is S4 this year, she joined choir in S1 and participate in SYF twice (gold award) committee member of choir, in S3 her total CCA points already exceeded to obtain a A1. Therefore my advice is choose the right CCA which you’re passionate and you will gain the extra 2 points thru CCA.

Activities such as dance, sports or art & crafts... Saw quite a few offers on such activities..
