I just applied for a new maid. Myanmar, ex India (apparently they do go India to work) - no off days, $360. Apparently fresh Indo is $360 pm. Not sure about filipino.
May I know does they know how to cook and speak english ?
I read from another forum that most of the Myanmar doesn't know how to operate electrical applicance, is that true ? -

I'm curious though, ex India - if she will be able to speak better English. So far, I have heard of communications problem for Myan maid. Indo not scared cos my parents can speak a bit Malay.
And this maid is fairly honest. Her biodata shows she can't cook. Quite in line with my experience. My 2 indo maids who were supposed to be able to cook local Indo dishes, don't seem to be able to fry an egg. Watching the way they try, my parents rather cook for them. -

Myanmar got Chinese you know.Hi hquek,
I've not heard of good Myanmar maids around...several of my friends who have them experienced stubborn and inability to communicate with them. They live in a world of their own and it's hard to communicate with them unlike Filipinos and Indon...bcos most of them cannot speak English.
We got a Myanma maid before, she can speak Chinese very well, even helped me with my Chinese homework.
Problem is, they are usually the more educated and more ambitious ones.
Ours ran away after 4 months cos she claimed that my mum scolded her for damaging her clothes (in fact, my mum only told her to be more careful when ironing, did not even say want to deduct her pay or anything).
After that, we still prefer Indon maid. -
My friends who employed Myanmar maid said it’s very hard to get through their thick skull…like early in the morning, she can steam Chinese sausage for breakfast and don’t bother to use their brains to think. They are staunch Buddhists.

Just sent my Filipina maid back to the ex-agent and was pleasantly surprised by my 2 kids reaction. My elder child was so happy that she was gone… you could see the joy in his face. He said that he didn’t like her cos she scolded him whenever he wanted her to help her. My younger child didn’t cry or even make a fuss at her disappearance. Realised that I should have sent her back years ago. Afterall if she could talk back to me over the slightest matter, she could also scold the kids over the smallest of things. Will never tolerate or counsel (over and over again) bad attitude again!
"Collected" my Indo maid from another agent. The Indo maid is ex-Malaysia and Christian. Surprisingly her spoken english is better than my Filipina ex-maid! Too soon to tell if she’s good but I am cautiously hopeful. -

You'll be surprised to know that Indonesians pick up languages very fast...if they want to learn, they will learn very fast. My Indon maids picked up Cantonese and learnt to speak English faster than my Filipino.Just sent my Filipina maid back to the ex-agent and was pleasantly surprised by my 2 kids reaction.

I had no freedom of speech at home

I believe this time I should be right to employ an indon maid after chasing away my filipina…
This maid of us had exp in Malaysia n is a 35 yo divorcee with 3 kids…she do not have hp or off day n salary is only 350…been with us almost 3 weeks n we are very happy with her attitude…able to cook very well, good in housework, can bathe n clean our dog n hamsters…very polite n decent probably of her age…never wear shorts or Bermudas…only wear below knee lenght or capri pants…even when I got her the 1 st phone card for her to call home, she only used abt 3.00 worth of value…she told me the phone card can last for 2 to 2.5 mths…very thrifty woman…she do not have her own house in indon after her divorce n she is now working to save money to buy her own house… Becos of her good attitude, she is well liked by the family…
Sometimes I really pity this curent maid of mine…her loan was like 3 k plus…from next month onwards, her pocket money is only $10 per month n will continue for 9 months before she can draw full salary… I had nvr came across such high loan…even my previous filipina maid’s loan was only ard
2k plus n every month pocket money was $20 for 6 months…sometimes the agents are really blood sucker…charging them so high… -
Has anyone got experience in the procedures of allowing her philippino maid go for home leave? I only have good words for my maid who has been with us for 2 years. Just renewed her contract and work permit. I was so proud of having successfully renewed her work permit, saving the cost of engaging local agents. I was surprised too that it was done fairly easy.
Now, I would like to let my maid return for a 3-week reunion with her family. I’ve made a check with MOM and am fairly sure that the Singapore immigration side shouldn’t be a problem since she is holding a valid passport and work permit. However, when I check with the Philippines Embassy, it seems there are documentations/declarations/undertakings/some membership stuff required. I understand this is to protect their people working here but I am not intending to go through this. Would there be any problem, would my maid be allowed to come through their immigration? -
Problems you might encounter:
1. Maid will not be allowed to come back unless you sign a contract stating her pay is at least US$400.
2. Maid got no savings and unable to pay the hefty tax when she goes back. Therefore unable to come back.
