Hi mrswongs, even recently when my mum renewed the passport for her indon's maid of 6 yrs, the indonesian embassy here also requires the maid to sign a document to declare she is drawing at least sgd 380 with off day..

This maid of us had exp in Malaysia n is a 35 yo divorcee with 3 kids...she do not have hp or off day n salary is only 350...been with us almost 3 weeks n we are very happy with her attitude...able to cook very well, good in housework, can bathe n clean our dog n hamsters...very polite n decent probably of her age...never wear shorts or Bermudas...only wear below knee lenght or capri pants....even when I got her the 1 st phone card for her to call home, she only used abt 3.00 worth of value...she told me the phone card can last for 2 to 2.5 mths...very thrifty woman...she do not have her own house in indon after her divorce n she is now working to save money to buy her own house... Becos of her good attitude, she is well liked by the family...

Sometimes I really pity this curent maid of mine...her loan was like 3 k plus..from next month onwards, her pocket money is only $10 per month n will continue for 9 months before she can draw full salary... I had nvr came across such high loan.

If your maid doesn't change, I'm happy for you...it's hard to find a thrifty and mature maid. Should I get a maid like yours, I would be very happy too...although it's really very tight having a maid.

Yes, that was what happened to us too. But our agreed pay after renewal is $380 with off day (but my maid told the embassy people she did not want off day cos follow me shopping with everything paid for her is better, so they striked it off).

There was an interview by the embassy people with my hubs and maid (separately). My maid told me that the embassy keep asking if we are nice, did we give her home leave, etc etc.
My maid told them that we had already given her home leave before we went to renew and they were very surprised and told her alot of 'horror' stories of employers breaking their promise, etc etc.

Glad to hear you have a good maid! Yes, really pity them for the long loan, before I think it was 7 months now 9 months? :shock:
For me, after 3 months of excellent performance, we gave our maid a bonus of a month's pay and she was so happy to be able to send some money home. After that, like Chinese New Year and birthdays etc, we gave her ang pows so intermittently she did have some money which I believe is an encouragement to her too.

For my 2nd maid, she has already worked with us for 2 months, so far so good, managed to look after my dad very well, able to administer the diabete injections as well as use the meter to measure the blood sugar! She was praised by the nurse yesterday when we took out dad for his blood sugar check-up! I too intend to give her some money after she completed 3 months for her good work. Hope this will a motivation for her to carry on her good performance as have a sense of achievement being able to send some money home.

Hi Janet, I agree with u..it's hard to find such a maid these day...probably its due to her poor family background...when we did an interview with her on webcam, we can sense she is a very decent n simple person...since we prefer someone matured, we dun mind getting someone older than 30 yo...can u imagine she do not even want to use the fan during sleeping time...? She says its not necessary....also, she is very thrifty n always make sure power switch are turned off when the appliances are not in used...she is very happy to work for our family cos her previous employer got 5 kids! For us, only a family of 3 with a pet dog n 2 hamsters..

I did try for a few weeks without maid n is really a torture...no time to cook dinner n we need to order tingkat....with the maid ard, I can enjoy cooking n she can help to do the washing...she will cook when I'm not free...at least can enjoy more free time.....

All along I dun like to do housework n hubby also will not help out...when we dun hv a maid, I got to do everything at home n keeps complaining to dh.. So dh thinks better to get a maid so I will not nag and complain so much...hahahah.....

Hi desert wind, only the 10 mth then can take full salary of 350 monthly...dh did suggest the other day maybe we should help her in buying house in indon when she completed her 2 yrs contract....at least do something good to help the poor....

When we picked her up from agent, she only carried a backpack...for toiletries only satchet pack of shampoo n 2 bars of soap....I bought shampoo n shower foam for her...even my mum's maid gave her a new t- shirt.....

Every nite I chit chat with her to find out more abt her family...she is a poor woman...her mum died when she was 5 n was taken care of by her eldest sister...when 16 yo, sister arranged a planned marriage n that's how she got married n had her 1 st child at 17... When the youngest son was 2 yo, she left indo to Malaysia.. Within 3 mths in her 1 st contract, her husband wanted to divorce her n married another woman....she was heart broken n just worked to save money for children n buy house....

Some maids are fortunate to have land, but they need to work overseas in order to earn money to build the house. It’s a pity that these maids cannot afford to go home for good once their houses are built…need money to survive.

My maids are not desperately in need of money…most of them came to S’pore to gain experience and so they were actually choosing employers. :x :x

u’ve got a wonderful maid & such maids are hard to come by. my 3rd maid left her daugher who was same age as DS when she came to work for me. she didnt even have money to send her daughter to sch. despite the loan she owed us, we gave her money to send home so that her ds can go to sch. she was very grateful & worked with us for 5 years. unfortunately her lousy husband finished up all her savings by womanising. she has to leave to save(?) her marriage. i hope she has since dumped him.

as for your maid. she knows she has a purpose of working here & such maids will be very committed, like mine. even my neighbours commented that she never mix around much with other maids who tried to influence her to stay & chit chat when we’re working.

its great that you intend to help her with the house later. according to my maid it takes abt S$2k to build a house.

May i know what taxes are they expected to pay. How much are we talking about? In that case, are we saying that chances of renewing a Phili helper is impossible as compared to indon? I have the intention to renew my Phili helper but looks like there is going to have lots of uncertainty. Conld you let me have more info. Thanks
