May i know what taxes are they expected to pay. How much are we talking about? In that case, are we saying that chances of renewing a Phili helper is impossible as compared to indon? I have the intention to renew my Phili helper but looks like there is going to have lots of uncertainty. Conld you let me have more info. Thanks

2. Maid got no savings and unable to pay the hefty tax when she goes back. Therefore unable to come back. -

u've got a wonderful maid & such maids are hard to come by. my 3rd maid left her daugher who was same age as DS when she came to work for me. she didnt even have money to send her daughter to sch. despite the loan she owed us, we gave her money to send home so that her ds can go to sch. she was very grateful & worked with us for 5 years. unfortunately her lousy husband finished up all her savings by womanising. she has to leave to save(?) her marriage. i hope she has since dumped him.
as for your maid. she knows she has a purpose of working here & such maids will be very committed, like mine. even my neighbours commented that she never mix around much with other maids who tried to influence her to stay & chit chat when we're working.
its great that you intend to help her with the house later. according to my maid it takes abt S$2k to build a house.
I know its not expensive to buy a hse n did question her why she did not manage to save in her previous contracts...according to her, she needs to pay for the children's school fees, even buying school uniform will be be responsibilities..her ex- husband did not care...n u know what was the most heartless thing they did to her...her mil refused her to take the children with her after the divorce.But, She managed to take the younger one who is now taken care of by her elder sister....
Yah, we will try to help her as much....dh believes in doing good deeds n helping the poor....

Some maids are fortunate to have land, but they need to work overseas in order to earn money to build the house. It's a pity that these maids cannot afford to go home for good once their houses are built...need money to survive.
My maids are not desperately in need of money...most of them came to S'pore to gain experience and so they were actually choosing employers. :x :x -
Maids, unless they really in need of money to raise their kids, will never work hard. They come to S’pore with wrong mindset - brainwashed thoroughly before leaving home…not happy with employer, or find that they are doing a lot, no off day, look after baby or aged/handicapped, ASK for transfer.
Like HappyAvon’s maid, even if she goes out, chances are her ears will not listen to others so easily…bcos her objective is to work hard and earn money for her kids. -

You can check the requirements and costs at the Philippine embassy website. If you have the time, you can queue up and process everything yourself. If not, go to an accredited agency. It'll cost between $270-$350, depending on who you go to and whether they deliver the documents to your home.
To ensure that your helper returns, she must (a) have all the necessary documents signed, and (b) know how to answer questions at her immigration. Otherwise, you might have to fly in to the Philippines to retrieve her personally.
For the embassy contract stating the US$400 minimum clause, some people draw up a separate contract with their helper to nullify the embassy contract, as it is essentially not required by MOM. -

got a Myanmar one after her... 4 days to hand over, my indon maid feedback - myanmar one terrible. scolded my maid for being too harsh on her. my maid knew our habits & was trying her best to teach her as much as possible. when myanmar was on her own on the 1st day, she said she didnt want to work anymore coz she was afraid to be alone at home! she was always in a dreamy mood & sings to herself. we were so afraid that she would commit suicide or harm DS if we didnt let her go home. after 2 wks the agent finally allowed her to go home. we were so relieved.

took back a Indon. sigh... cannot work, attract too much attention from my male neighbour who kept looking at my flat whenever he's home & banglas coz she was quite pretty. she even told me the men tried to harrass her in the void deck. so much problem which i would not go into details here. after 9 mths of settling her loan, we asked if she wanted to work & she didnt, so she was sent home to her delight.

I got a Filipino maid (last one) for a change...tired of eating chicken everyday with Indon maids....easier for her to cook although the agency advised me to tell maid to fry egg or cook noodles when we eat pork. Come to think it, maybe that's the reason why my daughter doesn't quite like pork. However, I used pork ribs to make soup.
A friend asked me to interview her maid's sister-in-law (Myanmar). We went over her house and had a chat with her. She wasn't very polite to begin with and then when my friend brought tea to serve us, she just bochap. No need to interview her any longer...we saw her true colours liao. -

One of the agents that I was chit-chatting with, mentioned that for existing maids who want to go for home leave and the employer have to sign the embassy letter, he will ask the maid whether she is willing to sign and acknowledge that she receives the official amount (I think it is SGD600) even though she is receiving less. So on paper records, everything is in accordance. If the maid hesitates, then he will ask the employer to send her home cos the maid could be up to no-good later on. -
My colleague just renewed her 2 years maid. She does it all by herself. She went to Phillipine embassy to endorse and declare that she is giving the maid S$400 with 1 day off per month. No question asked.

That's good news... don't know whether it is an indication that the Phili government is \"relaxing\" their requirements.
When I spoke to the agents in Sept, almost all said that it's a matter of time that the Phili government will \"relax\" their requirements.... cos demand for Phili maids have dropped and some agencies just do not bring in the Phili maids.
