Hi ! I am currently staying within 1km of SJI and ACS Junior and qualified under phase 2B for the 2011 registeration for both school. Therefore, I am in a dilemma now, can anybody advice which one is a better school ? Some of my friends had commented that SJI school is quite chaotic and the teachers are quite relaxed (bo chup). Is that true ? On the other hand, I am concerned about the \"rich\" kids class in ACS Junior, do not want to have unnecessary peer/parent pressure.

qualified for 2B for both ? one parent is Catholic and the other is Methodist ? or one is old boy of either school and a church member of the other church....talking about choices ...

aiyo, quite tough choices huh ? toss a coin .... ok jokes aside, may be u want to browse the discussion thread of the two respective schools?

Just my own personal views, these 2 schools really like '有钱人的学校“
Maybe could be due to the location of the school are located mainly in landed property area.

Had heard in the past that the child ask the parent do not come pick him up if the parent is driving Korean or Japanese unless they drive germany makes like BMW or Benz 7000, 9000 series . There could be really the peer pressure.

If time permit, you may perform PV & have a better feel of the school to determine your decision process.

Anyone knows... If I'm JUST TWO BLOCKS AWAY from the 2km mark, where does tat put me? do they really go strictly by the SLA maps?

Hi Cherlyn81_77, the two best \"official\" sources for finding out the distance between your home and the school are SLA's OneMap service: http://www.onemap.sg/index.html and the school itself.

What you get from these two sources is final and non-negotiable.

          Hi Citigirl,Cherlyn
Tink the best source is still from the school. This map, shows how the way by road, tink they dun measured such way. I've tried using the other online map, is within 1km, however, when register for PV, they check our block is beyond 1km. So is best to check with the school.

Schools obtain information from SLA, too.

Unfortunately, both schools do not accept PVs. I think reading up on both schools and talking to parents whose boys are studying there would give you an idea of what the schools are like.

My two cents worth - both schools are strong for their focus on an all-round education, wanting the boys to work AND play hard. Religion is another key aspect of the school.

So how suitable these schools are is dependent on what you think works best for your boy.

But the impression that only rich kids attend ACS is untrue. There are rich kids, but only a handful, and you'd be surprised but the rich ones are usually the modest ones. Sure, there are some flashy cars and chauffeurs and all, but these should not affect your child.

If my son told me not to drive my Jap car to pick him up, I'd tell him to take a bus then and smack him on his head!

Your block must have been on the borderline. But my understanding is that if SLA's Onemap says you're within 1km, that's good enough for MOE and the school. Just be sure that it is Onemap you're using (SLA's official map service) and not other online maps like Google or Street Directory.

Ok, noted. No wonder mine is beyond 1 km. Haha.

Ok, thanks. Someone has confirmed that school using SLA's onemap. So must be correct bah.

                      Hi,

I really look for friends who will register for their children to P1 at phase 3 (international students) in 2011 and join Academic Year 2012 to seek for advices and suggestion. I’m really lost and vague in approaching the chools.

                        Hi all,

                        My situation is as follows:-

Stay within 1km from Nan Chiau Pri School.
Have a place in Phase 2a2 in PLMGS.

We prefer to have a school nearer to our house so that our daughter doesnt have to waste time in transportation. But with Nan Chiau being pretty popular, we are afraid that we will not have a good chance in Phase 2C.

                        Any advice, please? Thanks.
