every school is different. some schools don’t take PV, some only take GRL for phase 2b and don’t accept any other applicants like pv or clan or church.

don’t rely 100% on these methods. be prepared to go to another school with a safer entry requirement for your case(s).

titank - one question - are do associate members of NCs get the same allowance for GRL phase 2B registration?

      thanks.

A person cannot volunteer for a GRC they are not staying in and use that to get phase 2B status.Imagine then the Bukit Timah GRC will be swamped with grassroot volunteers from the whole of Singapore!

Actually a person can volunteer in a GRC where they are not staying in. There are plenty of committee members/chairpersons in my GROs who are not residing in my GRC. However, it is still subject to the vacancies in the GROs for new members. For RC, there is associate member for people who does not reside in the estate.

Lastly, the most important thing to note is that you would rather volunteer in a GRC where you are staying in so as to minimize the time spent on traveling as you will need to attend monthly meeting at night and assist in organizing activities.

Do take note that you have to be Observer for 1 year minimum. To get to Executive Member would depend on how hard you work & whether any vacancy in the commitee a not.

          Hi titank,

Vacancies in committee would be quite limited right? This means it is even harder going by the grassroot way as compared to PV?...:(...Can share if you are going by the grassroot way or the PV way? Thanks.

          Best Regards,
chie[/quote]In actual fact, vacancies in committee are not limited as not many people are willing to come forward to volunteer in grassroots. The minimum term a person needs to serve to become executive member is subjective. It actually depends on the chairperson or senior constituency manager on whether he is willing to recommend you as executive member. They will need to get MP endorsement and writting to PA for approval.

Normally, it will be easier for them to convert you as executive member in the new lineup after the end of the current term of the existing committee. The terms of the committee is two years and their term has ended in April this year.

Thanks for the reply. The 2 yr term refers to the YEC right? In your opinion, should I be upfront to the chairman or senior constituency manager abt the intention to get priority at phase 2B registration? Is honesty the right policy in such case?

Many thanks for your reply in advance.

The following are the abstract for the MOE Primary One Registration Priority Scheme under Phase 2B for Grassroots Leaders:

              IMPORTANT NOTES:
              1) Only serving members of CCC, CCMC, RC, NC and Councillors of CDC who have served at least one year of continuous grassroots service immediately prior to their applications are eligible to apply for the Scheme.
              2) The applicant must be a parent of the child to be registered for Primary One education for the year of admission as stated by MOE.
              3) The applicant must ensure that the address stated in his/her application is his/her residing address and is the same as that in his/her NRIC. In the event that the address in the application is different from that in the NRIC, or if the address is not the residing address, the application will be rejected by MOE.
              4) GRL applicants will only be eligible for any of the schools in the GRC/SMC where they serve and reside. CDC Councillors will only be eligible for any of the schools in the GRC/SMC where they reside and schools in the GRC/SMC of the Adviser who recommended them for appointment into the CDC. You may refer to the MOE website at http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/listing-by-grc/ for the list of schools.
              5) Application is subject to the prevailing MOE's Primary One Registration Terms & Conditions and availability of vacancies for Phase 2B.
              6) The closing date for the application is 12 June 2009

Don't think that WEC, IAEC, MAEC, SCS, YEC are excluded. You might want to talk to SCM directly as they are more open minded and well informed than chairperson.

I went to the community centre four years ago and tell the SCM that I wanted to volunteer my service. After four years, I am a YEC chairman and CCMC member. So don't hesitate, just march to the community centre to talk to the SCM.

                  Hi

I am in the NC (Neighbourhood committee), similar to RC except that this is meant for non-HDB residents.

The difference between the volunteers and Executive Member lies in the so called \"membership\" . To be an Executive Member, one has to register with the RC (your GRC) 1st. You need to be present for all bi-monthly meeting and if you are absent for consecutive 3 meetings without valid reasons, you are out of the ball game. I joined in Nov 07 and receive my Executive Member \"title\" in Apr 08. I have been \"active\" in attending the meetings, giving suggestions in meetings and participate in 90% of the activities.

For volunteers, one is not required to attending the meetings and is free to move around and assist in the activities. I doubt if one will be given endorsement letter but the RC will give you recognition if you are really active. Recognition in the form of appreciation thru Annual Dinner and certificate.

I don't think there is a one year period as I receive the email to apply for priority registration too given the fact that I have joined less than 1 year. It depends very much on your \"contribution\" to the RC/NC.
May I know which NC area u r joining?

                    hello everyone

I’ve learn alot from this PV forum. I’m in the loss, need some guidance from the expertise.

My parent stay in Bukit Timah quite near to Nanyang Primary is about 1 to 2km away. (The reason for not chossing Nanyang is afraid balloting)

I stay within 1km to scgs but I was rejected to do PV for the school… so thinking of doing NC work for the communitee. Please advise how to go approach the NC? How to register? is it register on line?

Will you choose to do NC work to register to scgs or Nanyang Pri.?

Lastly, how to check if the school fall under the GRC area.

Thank you all for your help… really appreciate…

I am not very sure about joining NC. The normal approach of joining other committees will be to talk directly to the Senior Constituency Manager.

The two Community Centres that you can contact is Cairnhill Community Club & Tanglin Community Club. You can check http://one.pa.gov.sg for the contact number.

can some1 enlighten me on this as I am still blur even after gg thru the history.
if i signed up as PA Grassroots volunteer, does it qualify under phase 2B?
is it true that i can only serve the GRC in the zone I live in?
I am currently not staying in the zone of the sch i am eyeing though… so defeat the purpose if i were to sign up rite?
