munnoos:
I am new to S'pore education system and i didn't understand one thing. What is Parent volunteering? Is it compulsory for a parent to do PV? What are the benefits of PV? my two kids are to be in P4 and K1.Do i have to register for PV in their schools? please give me clear information on this.
Hi Munnoos,
PV is not compulsory. If you become a PV at a school, it gives you an edge when registering your child in primary one.
As your older child will enter at P4 when you come to Singapore, your second child will be a shoo-in (in the same school that his/her elder sibling is in) when it is his/her turn to register for primary school.
If your older child does not get into Shuqun Primary as you hope, you might want to consider being a PV there to give your younger child the edge.
Some parents also volunteer at schools for the sole reason of participating more in the schools that their children are in. -
hi all
I am new here… still v blur abt primary registration… hope to learn more from this forum
My elder gal… born in yr 2006, so she wil enrol in primary sch in yr 2013. Then when do I need to do PV? When should i call and find out from the sch?
Let’s say if i do PV for this sch which is 1 to 2 km of my place, does that mean i will hv chance for balloting under the less than 1km phrase?
Stil not sure abt the 2a,b or c thingy. kekeke… -

:welcome: to KSP.com. Perhaps you would like to introduce yourself at the Newbie thread so that we can give you a formal welcome? This is a SOP in KSP.com, btw.
To understand the P1 registration better, perhaps you would like to start by reading the following thread:

Chief has compiled all the necessary information there. -

If you wish to be a PV, you need to start cracking now. For some schools, it is too late already but for others, you might just make it. Essentially, you'll need to get accepted into the PV program and then clock 40-80hrs (depending on school) in the year before registration in July 2012.
If you succeed in getting accepted and clocking the hours, you are eligible to register in Phase 2B, together with church/clan associations and community leaders. All who qualify in this phase will then be allocated places in the school according to the distance they live from the school. Eg. all who live within 1km, then all who are between 1-2km and finally, all outside 2km. Balloting occurs when applicants outnumber places within each distance category.
You can read about the phases here: http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/phases/
And check out the schools' balloting history here: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/singapore-primary-1-registration-school-balloting-history

0V - PV? Typo error? :scratchhead:
Replied in 10 min also full - he received school's e-mail and responded within 10 minutes. However, school replied that it had enough PVs? :scratchhead: -
