One thing good of having exam, is that my dd has no school homework. So besides revising her exam subj, she has more time than usual to play in the playground and board games. πŸ˜„

Of course at the expense of getting good grades, I think.

Hi E3,

I did that last year and he said he feels good reading it...so I wrote something on a piece of paper last night and put it on the dining table.
Will do the same tonight...this time will write, 'Please open your eyes and write the correct numbers. Write neatly and do all workings in an orderly manner. We have done so much revision for this. Love, Mummy. '.

Hi Mummies,

I would like to seek advice on what to expect in P5.
Any recommended assessment books which can help in the 4 subjects. Appreciate your advice. Thanks πŸ™‚
anyone can share experience on special needs children at PHPS?

Sorry, I think in our excitement of preparing for SA2/P1, most of us missed your query. Iirc, there were a few posts on this topic earlier. What I vaguely remembered was the advice to inform the FT early for such cases so that help can be made readily available.

I'm not sure whether the rest have anything to add.

You can find the posts from this page:

http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4407&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=1770
Oops, sorry, I missed this post entirely. Have been so busy lately.

Is it convenient to reveal alittle more about the help needed? There are various types of special needs and what type of support is needed (e.g. academic, behaviour, social). I know of a preacher in there (someone from my church), he is currently seeing some cases of special needs (mainly autistic) children from the higher primary. I may be able to find our more from him with more specific details from you. If you prefer, you may want to pm me.

Don't stress your kid now. P5 will come with MORE Homework, plus Tue and Thu Supplementary Classes every week ....

Does your kid take HCL? My gal got so much compo to do this year until she's brain drained .... My brain got stuck as well .... Run out of New Ideas to write ....

My gal's science teacher expect them to know all the Basic principles and goes straight into \"Secondary\" Level Additional details in class, Which my Gal copied like mad in class .... Of course BLUR-BLUR and don't understand fully-lah! My son, who's taking \"O-level\" this year say some of the details my gal copied is New to him, too!
The teacher expects the class to have Science Tuition \"Outside\" Already, so never go thru the basic, so it is a BIG Struggle for my Gal whenever A NEW Topic is introduced .... Don't know the Basic Terminology, so has to take a few sessions b4 she begins to understand what is being taught .... (She Does Not take Tuition \"Outside\", prefers to study herself) ....

So far, we find The school's Supplementary :
\"ACE\" Science worksheet got more supplementary info (the text book is useless!) and is pretty good.
Of course, try out other school's past year exam paper is not a bad idea, either.

But expect to have \"shocking\" SA1 results in P5.
It is Traditional in Pei Hwa to set very difficult papers, to shock (or to wake up) the P5 kids every year ....
This year P5 SA1 Maths Highest score was 88! (used to be 100, or at least 98 in all previous exams, up to CA1 in P5).
My Gal says ALL students say Paper very Difficult, even for those in M1 Maths Banding Class ....

My gal hardly bring Homework back from school during her P1 to P4 years, but was swarmed with Homework everyday once she's in P5 this year ....
So you may wish to \"Prepare\" your kid to FINISH Homework FAST-FAST .... Else you may be stuck with them Late into the Night .... Ha-Ha!

Given the workload in P5, the jump in difficulty level in MA, the new topics in Sci and the "killing" CA1 papers, I would advise parents with children in P5 next year to start some preparation this Nov/Dec hols.

I recalled I bou P5 and P6 vocabulary assessment books for my elder boy then. Hence he sort of maintained his EL std in P5. As he reads up on Horrible Science series, he did not find much issue with P5 Sci.

Thinking back, I shld hv started him on MA and HCL earlier too.

Hi Jennifer/Funx3,

I'm truly in the right forum...to find out what to expect when son goes to P5. Really appreciate all your valuable input.

Son was swarmed with homework in the first 2 terms of this year...teachers just piled on homework and hubby/myself have to help him with Art and other not-so-impt work. Really pitiful.
I've prepared myself mentally that P5 😒 will be a big jump for all subjects. It's crucial for me to know what to expect but won't scare son until he goes to P5.

It's a tradition for Pei Hwa to set tough papers esp for Math and Science...so P5 won't be surprising.

Thanks πŸ™‚
