I can't decide which to book, Shinagawa Prince or Prince Sakura Tower. Is Shinagawa ok in terms of accessibility, room space, view etc?

Shinagawa Prince was okay. Our window could see Mt Fuji... But this being the eastern part of Tokyo city... can't see much... The room is comfy... enough space for everyone.

I would consider this a tourist hotel... the business hotels are very cramped.

      ..

      Hi mckenzy,

      Thanks for your feedback.

What about Hakone? Any good ryokan to recommend?

        Hi Mckenzy

I plan to book a day trip to Mt Fuji/Hakone. We can choose to include or exclude lunch. If we opt for no lunch, then we have to look for our own food. May I know if the food is expensive in Hakone and whether it is easily available ?

        Thanks in advance.

If you opt for no lunch, then you can either eat at the same restaurant (those who opt for lunch) at your own expense (meaning you can choose what you want to eat) or nearby restaurants.

Like most touristy mountain regions, food can be found in hotels, attractions and transport stations/kiosks.

Gora Station has an eatery, Yumoto station has a row of shows opposite the station - should have food there. Hakone Machi has restaurant, like a little town.

These are the three place i know that have eateries. If however you are staying at an isolated ryokan (a good thing!)... then you will have to be content at eating at the ryokan's dining facilities.

Seriously though... at lunchtime you would want to be running all over the place to see everything... nightfall is about 5pm.

We packed sandwiches that we bought from the 24/7 convenience store at Moto-Hakone to get us through the entire day.

The Ichinoyu Group is quite nice: http://english.ichinoyu.co.jp/index.html

Oh ya… lunch is not cheap here (as expected)

Unless of course you are willing to compromise. On our way back we had a light lunch at Gora station… a cafe that had a fish filet sandwich, hotdogs… that kind of thing… not something you’d expect in Japan… but quite practical… some of the nearby shops sell various snacks filled with taro and all that… won’t fill your tummy but should tide you over till you get back to the city…

Value for money accomodations in Japan in convenient locations.

                  http://www.toyoko-inn.com/eng/

Stayed at 2 of their inns, and it's good value. Breakfast and curry rice dinner provided; coin-operated washing machine, internet terminals. Check it out. (Note that prices are per room, so 8000 for double means 4000 per person).

Thanks for your advice. I have checked with the Prince's singapore sales office and the salesperson insisted that I have to book two rooms. Even with room as big as 46sqm, which comes with a rollwaway bed, she insisted the second child will have no place to sleep. Sometimes can;t understand why they can't just be more flexible.
How old are your kids, if they are below 11, u can try the B hotels eg. B ikebukuro.. Kids can share bed for free.. they have packages for discounts too. http://www.ishinhotels.com/en/child/index.html
