        Hi kiasumummynot,

Even if the individuals quoted are specific individuals like
‘Taylor Swift’, the emphasis is still on the plural subject ‘singers’

It is true that Singaporeans do not speak in this way:

"Out of all the people who are compassionate, my uncle is
        one of them"

However, that sentence was to help you or other parents understand
why the emphasis is on ‘people’ and not ‘one’.

We understand, however, your contention that these kinds of
questions confuse the child and are not really testing the child’s
        grasp of grammar.

Many times, I feel, schools try to set questions that are harder and
harder. In the past, questions such as "double comma" questions
or "Neither…nor" were considered difficult, but since so many
children mastered these questions, the testers try to find more
obscure grammar rules to test. The result would be questions like
these. The tuition centres would also have to make sure
that the children know how to answer these questions.

It boils down to this mentality that most Singaporean exam setters
have: the harder it is, the better.

I heard from a friend that there will be a new English enrichment centre in Eastgate in 2011, called Creative Horizons. They are currently in Orchard, and highly recommended by my friend.

          Anyone heard of it??

I am interested in English classes for my P2 child next year.

Any good recommendation of English Creative Writing course for lower primary at Jurong? Thks 😄

              Hi

You may wish to check out The Write Place (http://www.mexxi3.com). It is headed by Ms Liza Tan, who has published a couple of good compo books. The waiting list is rather long though for classes.

My nephew is going P5 next year. Since P1, his English result has been poor, either fail or just pass. I realised that due to his poor command in English, his Maths and Science results are also affected. Thus, I am looking for a tution centre (in the EAST, preferably Bedok, Tampines or Simei) which can help students to build a good foundation in English. I hope that he can get the foundation right before moving him to more demanding English classes.

Appreciate if anyone can recommend any. Thanks.

I stay in PR also, find it hard to find. I have tried I-creative learner, they are home based but limited seats. Kent Ridge at White Sand, they only have creative writing from P4 onward. Winnie is the teacher, she is a script writer, quite impressive right. My kid is only P3 so cant join them.

Ya, i have difficulty find creative writing in the east too.

Have any of you tried of The Alternative Story ctr? If yes, how is your child coping with it. Appreciated, if you can share.
