japhys:
I just feel the need to vent here as maybe I've been seeing it from a narrow perspective.so glad SA1's ending...
and i am beginning to understand how parents feel with exams...careless mistakes...haiz
My P2 girls got most of her results and it was a disaster.... From the band 1 result for chinese and english she had in P1, her scores dropped to 70+..... P2 is not supposed to be too difficult. She is supposed to be in one of the top chinese class and has been doing well for chinese but it really shocked us to see her SA1 result.
I felt so disappointed and upset. Reason being that we make the effort to spend time every evening revising, etc... this is what we never do last year. Also, the resources and time we put in to send her for BC and Molin,etc... I was really disappointed that I didn't want to talk to her last nite as probably I will only get angry and end up chiding her.
I managed to speak to her english teacher yesterday and she mentioned the key issue was carelessness that made her lose alot of marks. We had taught her about exam strategies, to check,etc... :stupid:
I am at this stage of trying to overcome my emotions. I felt lost and at the same time know there are alot of things that we need to do to buck her up. Also, recalled the recent article by Lee Weiling in ST on the 1st time she failed her exam. Learning is a life long journey and we are just at the beginning of it. This experience somehow provided a good learning experience for us and her. For my girl, not to be complacent. For us would be, there are still alot to be done and this also help to equip us with better knowledge on how to equip our P1 next year so that he continues to show consistency in his performance. -
Hi all
I have come to term that carelessness is part of growing up…they learn thr mistakes…
As long as the mistakes is not a fatal one, and so long they have learnt from it,never repeat, and that is most impt -
Hi MMM
I can imagine your frustration. Wonder if I would be feeling like you when I get back the entire results. Now it’s just a random spotting of mistakes, yet to know the full outcome. Would share more when the verdict is out!
My niece has all along scored 90+ for her chinese in P1 and P2. However it dropped to 70+ in P3. My sister attributed it to creative writing and mastering of vocab… Cos in P1 and P2, the children would be well trained in word recognition. But they may lack the skills to fully understand the meaning in order to apply them in essays. Not sure if this is the expected pitfall that we have to take note.
Appears our sons are both in P1 and in Molin this year. I only started him 1.5mths ago. Sent him there cos I have heard alot of good feedback about it. However I was speaking to another parent who’s daughter (p6) and son (sec2) are with Molin too and she told me her children’s chinese results are not as ideal as before. She felt that their standard has declined. Wonder if it’s so or that Molin’s not as good for upper primary or secondary levels? Or has its standard indeed dropped?
Does anyone have any recent feedback? -
Hi,
I can understand that from P3, it don’t seem that easy to score band 1 results for all subjects anymore. This is because it is getting more complex and they’ve additional subject to learn. But P2 should not be a big jump from P1.
To be fair to Molin, my P1 son did quite well for his std. He was the type who can barely recognise chinese characters, etc… due to his disinterest in chinese but I think he should score around 80+ for his chinese SA1. Which I am pretty happy judging from where he came from.
The ironic thing is that my girl has always been strong in her chinese. It was best subject. She learns her chinese spelling, etc… by herself and we rarely have to worry abt her chinese but this time round, it was bad… I was just having a disc with a father whose son is also in P2 same school and he mentioned that the son also did very badly in english and chinese and he gathered that it’s probably due to very strict marking. We shall see after I see the paper tonite as that should not be a excuse. -
Hi MMM
Hmm, ya, guess you have to look at the paper to understand further.
Does it mean that normally we would know the results first, followed by the physical paper later on? So if my son's last paper is today, I may know the marks next week? So many things to understand as primary school is so foreign to me until now

Hi,
Based on the timetable, we should be getting the SA1 papers to sign today.
My kids’ exams were from 4-6th May. But starting from last week, the kids started to come back to tell me their scores. They were given their papers to check and look through in class.
However some parts like oral exam might not be added on yet. Eg. for my P1 son, he told me his total english and maths score. For chinese, we are only missing the oral portion to piece the entire picture. So at this moment, it’s a borderline band 2 or 1 situation depending on how well he did. He told me that he forgot the chinese word for strawberry and said it was ping guo… will see how it goes. -
Hi,
Just came across this thread. I stay in Tanjong Rhu, suppose that should be considered East.
2 kids - 1996 (boy), 1999 (girl) -
hi
New to the entire site and I stay in the East. Marine Parade to be exact. Got married and move to North East, never got used to it and now back to my home town…Always felt more familiar and cosy in the East.
I have two kids, 6 and 2 respectively.
