Hello everyone! I’ve been very curious about this. My son tells me the canteen operators (except a couple) refuse to take some change from the students. For example, if they try to pay for a $0.70 item with 20- and 10- cent coins, the uncle/auntie will reject and say "cannot, must give 50 cents or $1". Does anyone know the reason? I was expecting them to welcome small change??

Ya, I also never heard my boy telling me. In fact, the chicken stall uncle and aunty very nice, they will even sell them when short of ten cents cos once my boy experienced that he told me so i went to pay the aunty she said it's ok, small children. During the June holidays, I went to pick my boy after activities and we saw the chicken rice stall was opened so decided to have lunch. The uncle so nice to give lots of fired veggies, of course, my boy didn't eat much of it and i ate them :oops:briskcross:

Got the P1 package. They advised us to pre-order the textbooks online, but when I tried to do that, the website was apparently not ready.
The package also did not included any info on the enrichment classes… -

Usually for pre order, you can skip the long queue, but please check all the books on the spot carefully. -

For enrichment you will see some vendors on orientation day or they will giving out brochures on 1st or 2nd weeks.
Just to share my experience on getting books from popular. Last yr, I brought the text books from popular. The discount is only 5% you probably 1 text book after discount you save around like $0.50. However, you need to take note some books you can only get in school so ended up i still need to send my ds back to bookshop to get. Also there are excercise books, files and whatever others. In Jan, my ds came back to tell me his science workbook and a few classmates wasn’t the updated version. (* Diff pages from the current version) Therefore, I think it’s still best to go get from school vendor Pacific bookstore.
Usually for P1, we will buy almost everythings on the book list(*except the optional items) But i noticed not all the things are used at all, p1 the chinese readers only used 1 or 2 readers. My friend shared her dd 2 pack of plasticine also unsed at p1. P3 the poster colour set all as new as it is. And some excercise books unused again so I will checked through what excercise books I left and just get 1 -3 extra. -
The reference optional comes up to $102… and like u said, not sure how many will be referred to… the rest of the booklist items is about $85…

Usually optional items can wait till teacher ask them to bring then buy.

Hmm...so far optional items never ask to buy or really need. Only this yr, the Maths teacher suggested a maths assessment book to the class. However, at times teachers may introduce some books, the children just ordered from teachers cos my ds said according to them it's cheaper or you can't get at popular.
P1 like i mentioned early at my ds's time got to buy the chin readers already like $30 per set, 1 small big board with 1 small white board duster. Another one which is a bit ex is the calligraphy bag but after P2 no more however every lunar new yr will ask to bring back for \"hui chun\" writing. -
There are 2 boxes of Chinese word cards which are not optional items? It's coming to the end of the year, and they are still gathering dust on the book shelf.
Textbooks and workbooks can be bought from Popular, but just be careful to check that you buy the latest edition. When I bought them last year, I found that some older editions were still on the shelves. So you have to be careful.
Buying books from Popular also saves you the trouble of having to carry 2 huge boxes of books home after orientation (unless you choose the home delivery option). We pre-ordered only items that can't be bought elsewhere (files, folders, exercise books, calligraphy set, etc) and that still amounted to one big box.
