On the opposite side of Bishan Road facing RI/JC. I think it is the former Bradell view Sec Sch and Bradell East school. Very huge area next to the Bradell HUDC. In fact some CCA activities \"had\" been shifted over but teachers and students resisted because the place is dirty and scary. :lol:

My guess is that it will take at least 2 more years for the final move. Then RI, RGS will be at a single location. Very sad because the current location of RGS is very nice.

i heard that RGS is shifting in year 2015. the sec 1s this year wont get to enjoy the new campus. the current location of rgs is very convenient for parents to go shopping while waiting for their child.

80-100 - 4.0
70-79 - 3.6
65-69 - 3.2
60-64 - 2.8
55-59 - 2.4

For the Sec 1s and 2s the overall GPA is computed by taking the GPA of the English, Chinese, Maths, Science, and 1 of the Humanities to be the 5 core subjects. Then of the remaining subjects, take the 2 best, plus the 5 core and average it to get your overall GPA. Unless you take 3rd language or something (e.g. MEP, SAP), you should only have 7 subjects for Sec 1s and Sec 2s, that means it is like taking the average of all your subjects.

For Sec 3s and 4s, you will have more subjects, so besides the 5 core subjects (English, Chinese, 1 Maths, 1 Science, 1 Humanities) you can pick the 2 best from 4 remaining subjects (excluding 3rd language, MEP, SAP etc).

Your marks are rounded up. e.g. 69.1 will give you 70.

Your marks (hence, your GPA) for each subject on your report card may be subjected to moderation. Hence, it may be higher than what you calculated, but will not be lower.

As for who takes charge in calculating the GPA, it is the computer...

Should be the other way round. The sec 1 this year are so lucky that they don't have to go to the new campus. Currently some CCAs are forced to go Bishan - it isn't nice. I don't like going there. I prefer Anderson road to Bishan Rd. You will get to compare the 2 when they go there for CCA.

Thanks for the tip, Dharma! I have several other clarifications which I hope you or any enlightened parent can help me with. :?

1) In Sec 3, is Maths 1 and 2 considered as 1 subject or 2 separate ones? Are they the equivalent of Elementary and Additional Maths?

2) Is Social Studies a compulsory core (examinable) subject? In other words, am I right to say that the 'core' subjects in upper sec are English, MT, Maths, Social Studies, 1 Science and 1 Humanities? Girls are then expected to choose another 3 to make a total of 9? If there are 6 core subjects, does this mean that GPA can be calculated using the best 5 cores?

3) I noticed in the handbook that academic prizes are awarded to the top 3%. Are rankings reflected in the year-end report cards or are rankings only known to the top 3%? Just curious - for the top 3%, are they ranked by overall GPA or by total aggregate score?

apparently my daughter goes there for cca. she likes the place thou, n its more convenient for her too. n the ccas aren't exactly forced, should be jz bcos there's no space in rgs. like my daughter's cca they go to either ri or ri(jc) to train.

In sec 3 and sec 4, maths 1 and maths 2 are 2 separate subjects, they are separate papers.

Social studies is compulsory for all. But the gpa is calculated by 5 core and 2 best. The 5 core subjects are English, Chinese, 1 Maths, 1 science and 1 humanities. Social studies is under humanities. So they will take the best of the 2 maths, the best science, the best humanities. Then from the remaining, they take the best 2.

Rankings are not reflected in year-end report cards. Unless you go and find out on your own, they will only announce the top on speech day. The top person is usually the one with all 4.0, unless no one gets it. If there is a tie, between the ties, the one with the highest overall score gets the top.

Do we know what is the average score among the Sec1? Is 3.26 consider OK? My nephew who is in RI told me that Sec 1 should be scoring at least 3.6 as the score will drop yearly due to difficulty in the subjects.

Hi mummyjoyce, I do not know the avg for Sec 1, but the avg gpa for Sec 4 is about 3.6. If the student is strong in maths and science, it is likely her gpa will go up in upper sec since there will be 3 sciences and 2 maths subjects to count into gpa. Even if she is not, I think she will get used to the sec system and improve her score. My daughter's gpa improves year after year

Don't compare with RI as I heard that they are more lenient with the sec 1s, not sure if true or not.
