      comfy:
Now I have a good picture what to expect next year. Can sleep in peace.

I bumped into the CL HOD this afternoon at Bt Panjang Plaza. Had a talk with him.

Comparing my elder boy's and the younger boy's curriculum (not the same textbook), the old curriculum testing aspects was mostly textbooks based. Can rely on learning the textbook to do well enough. But the system has changed to its focus on reading n comprehending the content. If solely rely on textbooks, it is not good enough. So do encourage the child to read more.

        Hi periwinklejoy,

ALMIGHTY staying for another 4 years...so long ?

        Comfy,
I get Victoria Publications too. SAP has Jiang Xiao Hong and another author (can't remember at the moment) but their assessment books are too difficult 😒 so I get another publisher. There are some schools still testing ι€ ε₯.
        Hi Janet,
yup, that's what I heard. But she has her fair share of supporters as she did manage to produce results. Some are happy that she introduced supplementary classes from P5 onwards as kids are more or less more prepared by end of P5. & P6 is just revision. I don't know how my dd's schedule wld be like next year, not sure if she will have to stay back in school for supp, and how many days? Hence, I am v apprehensive abt enrolling her for tution. Currently she only has Maths tuition. But we really think its impt she has some external help with CN as well.
Hv you packed the stuff for adventure camp for yr ds?

Supplementary lessons are on Tue and Thurs, 2pm to 3.30pm.

But for P6 nearing PSLE period, I understand that there are extra afternoon lessons for some classes.

Start of P5 is usu. more work. Do get good rest during this sch hols. Jia you. And get your child to read more CL books.

Hi Jennifer, tks for the info on supp lessons!
Yup, I will have to persuade them to read more CN books dis hol. Sigh, hv to go search for interesting ones, read up myself, n give dem a brief n entice dem to read. I usually hv to read to dem the 1st chapter n if they like it, they will hold on to the book n may or may not escape into the \"magical\" world of cn characters. But last Sunday, imm after the exams, dey selected a few titles fr Borders n r happily reading dem, but not CL books 😞

I'm pretty worried abt next year. If my dd has to do HCL, then the school will only cover the HCL texts in school n apparently we hv to coach her on normal CL? scary. anyway I'm not sure if she wil b offered HCL or not so I told myself not to fret abt it yet.

                  Don't worry Unduely.
My Gal did HCL this year in P5. No Doubt Teacher concentrate on HCL during Lessons, but with this, their CL Level is Raised, and Indirectly CL is Covered as well.

She Got Tonnes of HW from HCL everyday, so advisable Not to Load them with Too much Extra from Tuition and your own accessment papers. My Gal is the \"Kwai\" type and Already Getting a Bit Put Off by CL, with so much HW everyday. Just Don't Kill their Interest in CL by overdoing the Revision / Tuition Route.

My Gal did well for CL (No need to Revise at ALL). And am quite contended with her better than Pass Grade for HCL (Even though she Got Very Very Low marks for Compo :offtopic: (7 for Contents only) - She Thought she might FAIL the subject after her HCL P1, So Moody and Keep seeking Clarification from Me and Teacher ....

think is very hard to ask my ds to take HCL as she doesn't read CL books at all... :x

Son has CL tuition and Eng enrichment. No choice have to continue next yr as he needs them.
Know P5 will be very packed as it's actually preparing kids for P6.

Son will be going for a bone graft op this Thur...so I'll be keeping him at home from today, so that there are no hiccups TOUCHWOOD...and postpone the op.
