      hi qms,

i read that your child is attending LSH at Kent Vale. 🙂 Is the school environment good? Any experience to share please?
      Hi lsjoon!

Yes, my girl is in LSH@KV.

Environment-wise, the centre is big, and hence, there are many children. As such, the spread of disease tends to be more rampant, too. So far, LSH@KV hasn't reached the stage where it needs to close the centre for thorough sanitisation (thank god!) because it had breaks in between.

Curriculum-wise, LSH@KV is applying for rights to implement the IB program. Some forummers have commented that LSH does not teach spelling, which is true.

The centre has this Home-School Literarcy Program in which the child brings books back to read, and exchange for new books once he/she is able to read the earlier ones. My girl has learned to read pretty well through this program.

In addition, to prepare the children for P1, the centre has also recently started going through some topics that are taught in P1.

I am planning to send my DD to LSH at Safra Jurong when she turns 18 months. Any feedback on this branch is great appreciated!

                  Hi Peonies

My DS is currently in N1@LSH Safra Jurong. The school is quite spacious, previously parents were allowed to bring their children inside the school but due to the recent closure in Sep (bcos of HFMD), now we cant do that anymore. He just started to learn phonics and they have different activities planned every Fri. Teachers are quite responsive in general.

Thanks Mummyzun for your reply. I’ve faxed them the pre-enrolment form and it has been almost a week but no calls or any response from LSH yet.

Did you get to tour the school before you enrol your child in LSH at Safra Jurong? What makes you decided to go for LSH@Safra Jurong?

Hello! 🙂 Thanks for the detailed sharing. Really appreciate it. Is your gal in K1 or K2 already? ? I will be sending my boy to N1 next year. 🙂

Managed to see the centre last week. The place is really huge and i also saw a lot of kids running around the place. They seem to be happy (so it's good!). However, I was just wondering if it is just play and play and no structured activities for the lower level?

No problem! Please let me know if you have further queries.

Yes, the centre is huge. Hence, in a way, the children are in an environment that is quite similar to primary schools.

Well, I suppose you will see happy children in all the childcare centres that you visit. 😉 No? :scratchhead:

I think the LSH's philosophy is to teach through play. So, my guess is, yes, there may not be that much structured activities for lower levels. E.g. when they introduced community helpers, besides inviting some professionals in for talks, the teachers would also bring the children out to see the real life environment. There was once they introduced postman. The teachers brought the children out to see letterbox in NUS. The children would make a letterbox and place it outside their class. Parents are encouraged to write letters to their children, and drop the letters in the letterbox, just like how the actual thing works. In addition, the children were also taught stamps, and had a stamp design competition.
