I would like to ask if it is suitable to go to Japan(tokyo) during Chinese New Year (3rd of Febuary).And if it is suitable to go to the disneyland during winter. :? :?: :?: :?

We went last year mid Dec. It was cold but Disneyland was still opened until 9pm. Days are shorter, think around 4.30pm/5pm it became dark but we still enjoyed ourselves. Used heat pads and brought enough warm clothings to be able to stay outdoor most of the time.

Japan does not celebrate CNY if you are wondering. Korea does though. 1 Jan is their New year celebrations. Usually, there are a few days holiday like Golden week. Not sure if this helps?

Hi Little Mermaid, what are your concerns specifically about going to Tokyo during CNY? Is it over whether will the shops and palces of interest be open or is it over weather?

We were at Tokyo during CNY in 2006 with a packaged tour. The weather wasn't terribly cold and we were sheltered as the tour bus dropped and picked us up near the shops/places of interest.

We managed to cover everything in the itinerary with the exception of Mt Fuji 5th Station as it was closed to traffic due to snow.

The tour included one day at Tokyo Disney (Land). Unfortunately, it was raining on that day and some of the outdoor rides were closed and the parade was cancelled. The positive, however, was that it was not crowded and there was no queue for rides. DD and DH managed to take in quite a few rides and came back to the tour bus cold and wet but happy. I can still remember the wide smile on my DD's face (she was 7 years old then) . I 'hiberbated' in one of the restaurants with my toddler.

Dear all, I just managed to book a trip to Tokyo Disneyland at the end of the month - going with hubby and 2 young girls (4+ and 2+). Will be staying at the Sheraton Grande Hotel, which the travel staff told me is very very near Disneyland itself. As this will be our 1st trip to Tokyo Disneyland, I would greatly appreciate tips on how to manage and conquer the place, such as how to get there from Narita airport (I heard taxis are very expensive), how to queue for the rides (Fastpass???), have meals for kids etc. This is our first overseas holiday in 8 years, so would really like to enjoy. Thanks!


Also, any recommendation on shopping in the Tokyo area, esp with 2 young kids? Have no idea how kids-friendly Japan is.

You can take the airport limousine bus direct to Sheraton Grande Hotel. Check out this website.

Take note of the timing of the last bus. If you miss it, you can take the limousine bus to any hotel in Shin-Urayasu, which is very close to Disneyland, then take a taxi to your hotel.

Taking a taxi from the airport is very expensive. You can also take the train to Tokyo Station and then change to another train to Maihama station beside Tokyo Disneyland, but you have to walk at least 20 minutes to change the train. It will be very difficult if you have a lot of luggage. I tried it with my daughter before, check out my blog :

Thanks for the feedback from the KS forum, we have booked B ikebukuro for our stay at Tokyo in 2 weeks’ time. So happy, we are looking forward to this trip.
