2011 P1 Registration Exercise for 2012 In-Take
-
dear parents,
if i plan to LIVE 1km within a sch, and cant afford to buy hse there, is renting a plc to LIVE there acceptable to the sch for p1 reg? is it also legal? will the sch ask me declare the status or property or exclude me from balloting? i plan to stay near the sch, be it rent or buy, so long as my child is studyg there. given the grey area on rental eligibility, i thot buy is better but a lot $ involved.
assuming my current place is either sold or allowed to sublet cos already met the MOP so i can shift. -

Yes, renting a place so that you are near the school is legal. You can use that address for P1 registration. But do note that you have to be gnuinely staying there. Should the school/MOE find out that you are only using the address to gain entrance, you can be sued, and your child will be transferred out.dear parents,

Why should you be excluded from balloting if you are using rental address? Balloting applies to all whenever demand exceeds supply. -

written reply from moe:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for writing to us on 12 November 2010.
We wish to clarify that parents using address of rented apartment will not be at a disadvantage if the school should conduct balloting.
We would like to share with you that the registration is done based on the NRIC address that is reflected on the parents’ NRIC at the time of registration and the address used for the registration of a child (assuming Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident) during the Primary 1 registration exercise is based on the family’s permanent address i.e. staying at this address on a long-term basis.
Parents are also expected to be truthful when they use a different address during registration. They should use their long-term address for registration. There is no minimum period that the family is required to stay at the address before they can use the address for registration. However, if the address in their NRIC is a short-term one i.e. the property is rented on a temporary basis due to upgrading or renovation, they should inform the school of this at the point of registration. If the school is required to conduct balloting, parents using temporary addresses should not take part in the ballot so as not to deprive those living in the immediate vicinity a place in this school. They should register their child in another school.
Children who gain admission to a school through distance priority should be living in the address used for registration during their Primary school education. This is because the distance priority takes into consideration the benefits for young children attending schools nearer their homes. We expect parents who prefer their children to benefit from going to a nearby school to continue to reside in that address.
We do recognise that some families may need to move due to various valid reasons, and will give due consideration in such extenuating circumstances. However, should any family be found to have intentionally used an address for P1 registration just to benefit from the distance priority and subsequently move out of that address shortly after, then MOE reserves the right to reallocate the school place. In such cases, MOE would facilitate a transfer for the child to a school near to the family’s current residence with remaining vacancies. -

Hi, we will be residing in Bedok Reservoir Road before 2012…I had already started doing PV in St Hilda which is within 2KM from our new address…Although Red Swastika is within 1KM, we know the chances of getting into the school under 2C is very slim so we had dropped our this school in our list for P1 registraion next year.
My back up plan would be St Anthony’s Cannossian which is also within 2KM and based on past statistics, it will not require any balloting under 2C.
My K1 girl knows I am doing PV in St Hilda and she had visited the school during my PV for some school event…I did explain to her the reason for PV but no guarantee we can get into the school…She also knows about my back-up plan for SACP…After she found out that SACP is an all girls school, she is very excited and keeps telling me she prefers to go into a girls school than a mixed school…Reason she prefers more girls than boys…
Should we just go for SACP based on her preference…Actually there is no gurantee for 2B within 1-2KM in St Hilda…Balloting was conducted for this year’s registration and next year should be the same. I plan to try under 2B for St Hilda and if we did not get a place, then we will got to SACP under 2C…
Any advise?? -

Ur plan seem reasonable enough, u can register in St Hilda during 2B first, then decide whether u want to register in SACP or not during 2C. If there is no balloting required for 2C in SACP, then u can withdraw from St Hilda since ur dd prefers a girls school?

Do u have a younger ds btw? If not, i think a girls school would be good choice esp since ur dd prefers it. Maybe u should bring ur girl to SACP to look around the environment first?
