hi! i'm new here! all along have been browsing through all the topics but just had to comment this time. my boy has actually attended the preview lesson with their trainer. i wasn't really sure if i should let him join at 1st but thought since the preview lesson is complimentary then why not.

so we went there and the trainer was really nice and explained to me what the whole course is about. they have specially designed workbooks with very interesting questions. unlike those standard math questions (which my boy finds it very boring and will tend to lose focus after a few pages). they also get to learn chess and apply the thinking skills on the questions in their workbooks.

he has been to his 2nd lesson and he is always looking forward to the next lesson. after the lesson he'll be very excited to take out his chess set and show us what he had learnt in class. seeing him learning and having fun at the same time makes me happy as well. personally i don't think its a good idea to force them to attend many lessons and to be the 1st in class. many parents nowadays want the best for their kids but end up pushing them too hard. which i think shouldn't be the case.

just my personal opinion! hope all the kids will enjoy their learning process as much as my boy does!

Yah its called Ho Math and Chess. i stay in pasir ris so it is very convenient for me. its near the mrt too so it'll be quite convenient if you need to travel. why not u go for their preview lesson 1st? maybe worth the travel if you like it. i was kind of hesitant before i went to the preview lesson but my boy love it and i think the concept is interesting too. i signed up for a term and will definitely continue!

No lah, for long term, is too far and too time consuming. My DS has classes on Saturday and Sunday in the North and West. If only they have conduct classes around there. Too bad the Hougang branch dun conduct classes, I may consider that area.
                Thanks for your sharing too.

Just want to share with parents (especially those with kids who are weak in problem sums) about this centre. My son is very weak in problem sums. He did ok for section a and b but don’t know why, his section c is just very badly done. I tried to teach him personally but I got to admit that the questions aren’t that easy for me to teach anymore. So last year I look around my area for a suitable centre and found this Ho Math and Chess. It seems like they are specialised in maths because they have enrichment and normal programs for maths. So I decided to let my son try out for awhile to see if there’s any improvements. He scored about 65 for SA1 and for SA2 his grade jumped to 85! (much to my surprise cos he never did this well for the entire year). So now he is in p6 and still taking lessons over there. I am sharing this because I am a parent myself and I understand how parents feel when their kids are not doing as well as expected and psle is just around the corner. So parents please do not give up so fast on your child! all children have a hidden potential so please do guide them and provide them with the necessary learning environment!

sorry forgot to state the location of the centre. it is located at tampines. very near mrt so its very convenient. if I’m not wrong I think they have a few branches but the tampines branch is the one specializing in heuristics maths.
