I was thinking of trying KCPP but was told that they need balloting for phase 2C for those living 1-2km. But Guang Yang primary is <1km but I do not know much about the school and wonder can anyone who has kids in that sch provide more info. I am bit worried about the reputation of the sch whether is there any hooligan kids, etc.

My kid is the soft type and often bullied even in K1 and I more worried about the environment of the sch.

Hope someone can advise me more about Guang Yang primary. Thanks.

So even if I join shhk and in Phase 2b but still 1 -2km away, does that mean i don't even stand a chance for balloting? All places will be taken up by those stay < 1km whether phase 2b or 2c?

No, Phase 2B stats different from Phase 2C. In 2006 (dragon babies co-hort), phase 2B balloting was done for those staying within 1km only so you would not stand a chance if same scenerio happens. However in 2007, all staying within 2km under phase 2B get a place, so u would be in if this scenerio happens. Yet in 2008, phase 2B balloting was done for those staying 1-2km so u will have to ballot if this scenerio repeats. Wow looks like Ai Tong's stats very volatile.

Thanks for the info. But is it true that past record shows that phase 2c those living 1-2km don’t stand a chance at all for Ai Tong?

If so what would be a better choice for 2C, KCPP or guang yang primary?
I know the latter does not have a balloting history but wonder how is the school’s environment?

But how can we check the number of places left in phase 2b or 2c after phase2a? I know that if we call the sch sometimes they will not entertain us.

Yes. But no guarantee it be same every year.

Check the MOE website or TV text. Figures would be available after phase 2A registration close.

              Hi,

Please allow me to provide you some info. through my own experience 8).

My child is in P1 this year. Had been through the \"nerving wrecking\" P1 registration last year. Like you, I am staying 1-2 km of Ai Tong. But I guess I am more prepared. I joined the SHHK and even managed to get the recommendation letter to register under phase 2B. Unfortunately, last year has an exceptionally high number of alumni registrations, thus leaving very little places for phase 2B & 2C. There were initially 41 places left but was later told during registration that 2 sets of parents \"forgot\" to register in the earlier phase, thus the remaining places were amended to 39. There were 34 living 1km who registered, so only 5 places available for the 11 registrants staying 1-2km (after a few like myself pulled out). I decided not to take the \"risks\" of balloting and registered with KCPPS, which I had signed up as a PV, thus allowing me to register under phase 2B. Last year, for KCPPS, under phase 2C, as I recalled, there are about 40+ people balloting for 10+ places for those staying 1-2km.

Guang Yang has very low number of registrations for the past couple of years, probably 2-3 classes of new P1 entrants every year, and likely those who were unsuccessful in the earlier phases of Cat High, Ai Tong and KCPPS.

Bishan is not too far from Teck Ghee Primary and Townsville Primary (they are within 2km from my place in Bishan). If you are prepared to ballot in earlier phase and have a school to fall back on, you may want to consider Teck Ghee or Townsville, both are not too bad. You may want to source around for more info. though.

              HTH.

              Cheers....

Hi ! I am contemplating between Catholic High or SJI Junior for my son.

Any feedback on these schools ? Which school is academically better ?

                  hi dada,

for catholic high, please discuss http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=435&start=0 and SJI http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=487&start=0.
do go to different thread to seek feedback on each schools differently instead of starting a thread asking for comparison as the chances of someone who had experience of 2 schools at the same time to make a valid comparison is very slim. from there, you can make your own comparison.
                  happy browsing.

Don’t really know much about these 2 schools? Do they have any past balloting history for phase2c and those living 1-2km?

Wonder how is their schools’ academic performance? I was wondering if can i get more info of parents who have kids in these schools.
Thanks and i appreciate yr assistance.

I don’t hear much about guang yang, does it mean it is not a very good school? Seems like not many people like to put their kids in this sch, is it that the sch did not perform well in its academic field or they do not have good teachers to produce top students?

Hope to get some feedback abt this sch.

Hi Adrianteokt, I think there isn't really a 'bad school' in Spore. Just that Guangyang happens to be in Bishan and is over-shadowed by schools such as Catholic H, AiTong and KCPP. Parents staying around this area also tend to prefer trying for schools such as St Nic & Anderson or other schools around AMK that has been producing better PSLE results. As such, the take up rate of this school is usually not high in the first few phases.

But if you really want your kid to get into CH, AT - you will need to move within 1km, do PV for a better chance of securing a place. Good luck 😄
