Not from what Mr Kang told me. His youngest student was a toddler. And from other parenting forums, there are also some violin teachers who take in students from 2.5 years old. Can't share with you the contacts cos no names was given.

Wow, you heard about the carpark too? Yup, every time I brought the kids there for lessons, my mood would turn foul whenever we reached the entrance of the carpark. Stress Phew, nightmare is finally over for me.

I've been there last time - his previous teacher used to do their concert rehearsals at the Jurong East Centre. Bc I think they combined their JE students with their private class students for concerts. Never liked the carpark at JE.

Why is nightmare over for you? Changed teacher?

Mr Kang as private 1-to-1 teacher? Or group teacher? How to contact Mr Kang or book him as teacher? Have to call the JE Suzuki school? Or do you have the contact? Were your kids under him?

She was NAFA teacher many years back, now she is a private teacher. Her niece Helena Dawn (14) just left to Menuhin too. Janell Yeo (16) in US , Edward, winner of Young Violinist Competition are her students.

We are going on a 2 week holiday and I am rather concerned about how we can continue our daily practises. Anyone who had young kids playing the violin and had experience bringing the violin for practise during their time overseas?


Is it advisable to practise with a rubber mute? As we will be in a cold, winter country, are there any specific things we need to do to protect the violin?

Why the concern? Are they having exams or a performance right after? Usually we don't bother and just let them have a holiday. Children get back into form very quickly.

However, if you do decide to take the violins along, the colder climate will also be much drier -- which means that you should take care to keep the humidity up in the case with either a Dampit, case humifier, or a baggy with a few holes filled with orange peels. When pegs dry out they shrink, making keeping the violin in tune a challenge; when the wood of the body dries out you risk cracking, varnish crazing or seams opening.

A practice mute is always a good courtesy in a hotel situation.

[/quote]A very simple way is to keep the violin a plastic bag. That's what the Chinese do for their hu-qins.(erhu, jinghu...)

There is no major performance upcoming, just felt that an occassional practise during the trip which is quite long given its 2 week, would be good to keep in good form.

I cant find a mute his violin size just now in the shop… so may have to drop the idea.
