Tks for the feedback on the enrichment courses πŸ˜„

Went to Orientation Day at the sch today; the performance by the students were great. DS had an assessment done in his new classroom and returned with a letter advising us to sign him up for English enrichment.

No harm to let him try for the English Enrichment course as to let your DS to adapt to the new school environment. Mostly the class will start in Dec till end of Dec before school holidays over. Later, the alumni will called u to check whether u still like to continue studying.

For my case, I chose not to continue . Depends on individual at later dates. πŸ˜„

For P1, any idea when will we get the student pass and time table? I actually expected it to be on orientation day today, 22 Nov.

Timetable should be during the first week of school.

For student pass, it usually arrives in Jan - Mar. Depends on how fast the school arranges for the photographer to come in and take their pics, then send them over to the EZ-Link office.
Some schools as parents to submit passport photos which they will use as the student pass photos, those schools usually receive their cards earlier.

Thanks. I also find there's lack of admin info during Orientation. Like what are we suppose to bring on 1st day of school? What if child fall sick during school days? There should be Q&A session but there isn't.

For Badminton it's true that if you do not join from P1, they will not accept for school team. It's stated clearly in the Alumni Program book. πŸ™‚

I am quite confused. Is the Badminton by PSG during weekends an enrichment or schools's CCA? Thought CCA should be by school and is free? How to join the school's badminton team? When are we supposed to sign up?

What I understand from the alumni is that you join the alumni first better in primary 1 onwards, then the school will select those \"Best\" student under CCA when they are in Primary 3.

My son likes choir but was told that Primary 3 then have , they have to be selected too for them to be under school CCA. I believes those students under CCA is for those What so call for BEST Students only. :?

I'm not too sure about NCPS's normal operations but from my experience teaching in other schools:
                1. 1st day of school: Pencil Case, School Diary (or handbook), Water Bottle, some money or lunch box.
                2. If your child is sick, call the school's GO to ask them to pass a message to the form teacher. Give your child's name and class.

Competition (school team) and recreational (non-school team)

For school team, they will choose the 'best' or those who have more talent or training.

As such, for badminton, they would prefer students who have been training since P1 as they need not 'retrain' the students in P3. Can send them for competitions straight away.

Also, NOT ALL CCAs ARE FREE!
                Please take note!
Depending on the school and how they allocate their funds, certain CCAs still require payment.

For example (this is the case in a another school I was teaching in), the instructor fees and maintenance of instruments costs more than what the school budgetted. Therefore, the students are required to pay 'fees' (around $8/mth). This was told to them UPFRONT, before they join the CCA. Also, some schools believe that it is a 'deterent' for those who want to join for FUN, then give up after a while (after the school has invested so much in training the child).

They need 'talented' students to join their CCAs and help the school win awards to increase the school's reputation. It's a fact, even in secondary schools. It's a matter of the CCA choosing you, not the other way round.

I believe the reason for having to pay fees for CCAs is that the schools have chosen to outsource most of them to private person/company to run them and free up teachers' time.

Hi, I am considering NCPS for my boy. Was wondering for parents with kids already there, how do you find the principal and teachers in the school on the whole? Do they push alot just on academic results or do they care for the development of the student as a whole person in all aspects? Appreciate any useful feedback. Tks

Also, i'm not sure if its too late for me to join the SHHK now if my son is born in 2006.
There's no exam for P1 but bite-size assessments half the time. For DS' class, quite a lot of homework during weekends. His teachers r quite caring.
U might 1 2 check w SHHK on the cut-off date for their next meeting for new membership.

I also signed up for both the 10-day english & chinese enrichment courses. There are also many weekend prog when school starts. Any parents actually let your child attend such CCA from P1? I like many of the prog (like badminton, wushu, arts etc) but timing seems to clash with each other and add up to be quite expensive. Any advice if I should let my son to go for such things at P1? I also heard that for badminton, if don't join from P1, they won't accept when at P3. Is that true? Tks.

The pt is not to let ur kids join too many activities until no time for family & homework during weekends. πŸ˜‰
I hv friends who send their P1 kids to 1 of these activities & add 1 more when they r in P3 while I prefer DS to continue taking wushu from our RC as timing & venue r more convenient for us.

My neighbour just signed her P3 DS up for intermediate badminton this yr, as the beginner class clashes w his other activity. The coach tested him 1st to c if he can cope w the intermediate training.

Time table will b out on the 1st few days of sch. There shld b another letter closer to date on what to bring on 1st day.

Think DS got his student pass only in May or July. The sch will arrange the kids to take pix in sch when the time comes.

I think it's quite common to have auditions for CCAs that require some skills/aptitude. I saw the choir performance recently, they r quite good w their own P3 pianist but only a handful r boys. πŸ™‚

DS is v v keen on the Maths & Science club but also hv to wait till P3. 😎
