My daughter is from bukit panjang PS, her T score is 229

Can she try bukit panjang high even though the min t score is 241 cos her mom and aunties were alumni, possible to appeal?

Simialry can she try st margaret as 1st choice? She puts CHIJ St Joseph Convent min 226 as second choice, will she be penalized for not putting CHIJ as 1st choice?
Hihi Dan Lim

Appeal got to base on the child talent or achievement. St Margaret's is a good choice. putting CHIJ as 2nd choice will not be penalised. these two are a wise choice. Sorry not to dampan your spirit, but BPGH is really way out.

entry to secondary school is base on t-score, 229 is far too away from BPGH COP suggest not to waste your choice should choose school with COP 1 to 2 points above 229 that make more sense.

Sall,

What is your girl t-score?

270 with distinction for HCL. A lot of people is against me applying for RV, but I have a very gd feeling and impression of this sch, especially after visiting the sch on 27/11/10. Did you attend the RV open house?

I did not attend the open house. Don't need yet. I support your decision to apply for RV. I think RV has one of the most robust curriculum that is suitable for versatile kids. However, is your daughter happy to go to the school? What are the reason people are against 270 applying for RV? I think it is better because he/she stands better opportunity compare to if the child apply for the big four where there are dozens of kids with 270 or more t-scores, the competition will be very stiff and he/she may not get sufficient opportunity for enrichment exposure like for example, representing the schools for inter-schools competition etc...

Hmm, I did ask you earlier on, but from the school that you choose i presume you are staying in the east. Hence, No doubt RV is a good school. But do consider the distance, its a 6 years commitment

The journey to school is a 20 min train and 10 min walk. So time spent is quite acceptable

Then why your frd against you from chooing RV? isit because they feel your daughter should go to a better school?
A lot of people feel that RV COP is not as high as other elite schs, some actually demanded/insisted tt I send my girl to NYGS. well, at the end of 6 yrs, its the same A level papers they are taking. Most important of all, she likes the sch so much. We spent almost 4 hrs at the open house, so you can see how much she likes the sch  What about your child?
Hi,

With a score of 225, like to hear what is the advice for the following choice:

1) Kuo Chuan Presbyterian - 227
2) Chung Cheng (Yishun) - 230
3) Riverside - 229
4) CHIJ St Joseph - 226
5) Ang Mo Kio - 227
6) Peirce - 208

My idea is to maximize the chance to get into any of the 1-5 school and use 6, hopefully with enough buffer just in case fail to get into the top 5 choices. Thank you so much.

Hi, if you look at the past COPs for schools, you notice that they don't change very much, which means Kuo Chuan's COP likely to remain 227 or +/- 1 or 2 points, Chung Cheng +/- 1 to 2 pts from 230 etc.

This means that you may likely be posted to CHIJ St Joseph or otherwise Pierce.
It is best if your last 3 choices are COP at 225 or less to play safe, since it may also be likely that COP may increase this time round.

Do look at other good value-add schools with such COPs.

Thanks for the advices, jacz πŸ™‚

I have tried to look for sch below 225, anyone has some recommendations, pls let me know, btw - I live near AMK...TIA

Hi Budo
Try Mayflower (COP 222, achieved band 7 in 2009 O level)
Beatty (COP 217, achieved band 6 in in 2009 O level)

Last year COP for Anglican (240) & Chung Cheng High Main (236). For selecting SAP schools, your son's score will be 236+2 (238).

I guess he can still try Anglican if that is his \"dream school\" since he is only 2 pts away.
But if he is fine with either CCHM or Anglican (ie he has no preference w.r.t these 2 schools so long as he gets into one of these 2), then putting CCHM as 1st choice will be more \"secure\".

Hi Maisy, why did you say putting CCHM is very 'secure'? CCHM COP is 236 but her son got 238. I thought he should be able to get into CCHM if he fails for Anglican? Plse enlighten me (I also deciding btw putting Anglican or CCHM as 1st choice). Thanks in advance.

Hi
I didn't say putting CCHM is \"very secure\".
I said it would be \"more secure\" to put it as 1st choice (compared to 2nd choice); provided her son doesn't mind getting into CCHM.
Furthermore, COP 236 for CCHM was last year's.... it doesn't mean this year will also be 236. We use 236 as a rough guide and cannot assume 236 will be \"it\" (COP for this year). What will be this year's COP is anyone's guess now (since we will only know 2010 COP by the end of the whole Sec 1 posting exercise)

What if this year's COP, like some have mentioned here, increase ? What if COP increase to 238 for CCHM?

Bearing in mind the \"definition\" of COP means the LOWEST point being accepted into a certain school - so if COP this year turns out to be 238 (again in a hypothetical situation), those with 238 and who had chosen CCHM as 1st choice would be given priority ... and if vacancies are filled, then those with 238 but had chosen CCHM as 2nd choice might not be accepted. So, this is where appeal comes in.... etc etc

I have to reiterate that this is provided her son doesn't mind CCHM. If Anglican remains her son's \"dream school\", yes he can still try Anglican as 1st choice since he is 2 pts away.

Not sure if you are following me... but i've tried my best to elaborate liao :)
Hi Maisy, thank you for the explanation. I understand now. πŸ™‚

The IP programs for those schools are much better as they are more experienced with a history that proves that they are really good. I would have definitely sent my girl to those schools if her aggregate was good enough. Moreover, the JCs that will immediately follow them up after high school will be RJC and HCI. They offer a good environment for academic growth and they are undoubtedly the two best JCs in Singapore.

2.) Nan Chiau (COP 231)

I think you stand a chance for Victoria, why not try it?
Absolutely wrong and misleading advice! Trying for Victoria with 230 is asking for the impossibe.

In my humble opinon, the first two choices should be your \"dream school\"not necessarily close to your own score. As long as you have one or two secured choices, you are free to make a choice. πŸ˜„
