I think talking about it this way on this thread is not very relevant since we are mostly parents with students that have *finished* p5 and are doing psle in 2011 (title of the thread). We would appreciate sharing on what to do with just those 9 months left, not advice to make us regret not having started preparing in p3.verykiasu2010:
Just ensure consistent work from P4 onward, start gearing up for PSLE from P5 onward (start going through P3 & P4 stuff during P5...) and by the time P6 arrives, should be ready to do complete paper by mid year...pace it out, and it won't stress out the kids
Thank you.
the point i wanted to make in my original message (which u cut off) is that this year or next year papers are all different in difficult level. there is no basis for inter-year comparison
parents with P4 kids reading this thread will appreciate that PSLE preparation does not start at the beginning of P6
I am sure this thread is not read by purely P5-going-P6 kids/parents
Thank you -

Whoa .... had to go search dictionary! Quote out of context? Okie... that phrase alone is really out of my league, more like it. *stupid parent beget stupid son*, that's why. :stupid:

Yea I think those \"other\" parents who visit this thread would appreciate knowing what to do in the p6 year alone too, or they would be visiting the \"prepareing for PSLE\" thread, perhaps. And all of us would appreciate valuable sharing of parents like you who've gone thru it already so very successfully. -
Any idea if this year PSLE CL considered difficult for a student from SAP school with average result (~65)?
Really worried about my DS CL⦠-
I think PSLE 2011 preparation should start early,at P5.
If your kid is P6 next year and preparation has not started,I suggest starting to read the P6 textbooks NOW for starters

But how to prepare for psle in p4 or p5 when the full syllabus of psle are not taught yet ..

Build a strong foundation in all the subjects so that your child will find it easy to cope with P5 and P6 syllabus. If a student has a weak foundation, he/she will find it a struggle to keep up not to mention do well during the last 2 years. Also, students will be less stressed comparatively. If your child is not a reader, now is the time to enforce it. Reading Straits Times is a must to build up a child's vocab. DS3 read very widely when he was young. He read the newspapers and Reader's Digest when he was in P3/4 (can't remember when he started). As such, English is a breeze to him and his teachers are stunned by his general knowledge. He learns more on his own than what is being taught in school. He may not be top in his class but his knowledge surpasses all his peers (too bad they don't test current affairs and his knowledge is not translated into grades. However, it does help him one way or another e.g. in writing compo and understanding Science concepts).
As for Maths and Science, if a child is weak, it means that he/she has not grasped the basic concept. Therefore, when he/she enters P5 and P6, he/she will have a hard time catching up cos the syllabus is like building blocks laid one on top of another - with the more difficult blocks on top.

PSLE science scope test all the way from P3 to P6. If you wait till P6 then go revise P3 to P5 stuff, that will be extremely demoralising due to its sheer volume
By revising earlier, it builds foundation and application skills, and gain confidence along the way -

PSLE 2011 will probably be very hard! All cause 2010 was easy!I'me taking next year.

if paper is tough they wont be so strict in the markings.. -

During the Sc exam in p4 and p5, besides the newly taught topics, the past topics are also tested.vlim:

Fully agree
My boy had his PSLE in 2010, and all the papers were relatively easy.Leanne:
Yes, I would think so next year math paper is a hard one.So, must really train ds to think out of the box.Merely practising and doing the routine questions probably will survive the routine questions but not out of the box kind of prob sums.
Having said that, I still think our children should have a deserving holidays, and this period should only be a warm up period for them, race begins next year.
cheers,
leanne
As a result, PSLE 2010 top score dropped and the EESIS COP dropped. 2011 Sec School admission is expected to drop.
All these are due to the easy papers for 2010 PSLE.
having hard papers is not necessary is bad thing. if your child is very bright, it is only through hard papers that he can show his true potential.
