      Hi Parents,

After reading through these posts, i really feel kinda overwhelmed… this seems really tough in getting children enroll to an ideal school…

Im a newbie, just shifted to punggol…

Can anyone advise me coz im still getting confused between phrase 2b and 2c…

im staying at punggol… and hope to register my girl for Paya Lebar MGS and if I do PV, do I stand a chance in 2B or 2C… or there’s totally no chance for me even if i were to do PV?

My friend was telling me that there is no point for me to do PV coz im staying beyond 2km… is it true?

What about Mee Toh, which im within the 2km?

doing PV gets you into phase 2B

if there is more demand, i.e. more PVs at phase 2B than the number of places available for phase 2B, then the distance comes into play.....within 1 km to be filled first.......eg if the number of places left after 1km is filled is less than the number of PV...then those within 2km to be given....if that exceed the places, then ballot - even for PV within 2 km.........the above is just a possible scenario

and if unsuccessful at the phase 2b ballot, can still join in the phase 2C ballot....but if you are outside the 1 km, 2km......tough luck.....if even the PV needs to be balloted for within 2km - as an example

that is why - to be extreme kiasu, be a PV and move within 1 km of the school, unless you are an alumni that gets you into phase 2A

apart from sap sch, which other pri schools let the children take higher chinese? is it at p3 then can choose?

i heard that for sap schools that are have affiliated sec schools, higher chinese score is not counted or needed (cos already lower Cut off point for affiliated students) when accepting admission for sec 1. if that is the case, so higher chinese score is more for non-affiliated students who want to get into sap sec schools.

if so, what is the benefit of choosing a sap sch if that primary sap sch doesnt hv an affiliated sec sch?

              that is not true

              for example :

cut off point for a SAP school is 263, and for its affiliated students is 250

if the affiliated students has higher chinese distinction, she can get in with t-score of 247 + 3 (HCL distinction bonus point) = 250 to meet the cut off point for affiliated students

non-affiliated students will need 260 + 3 to get in, assuming the student has higher chinese distinction

different school has different cut off point for their affiliated students

i see. my girl is from stnic. and a parent told me for stnic, they dont look at the HCL score, that’s why quite a lot drop HCL at p5 unless they wan to go eg NY Girls whc does look at HCL

HCL bonus is it 3 points or 2 points? or depends on the type of score?

psle score or psle t-score is it the same thing?

                  just to gather some views:

i had been targeting Cath Hi pri for my boy, and so we live within 1km of the sch. reason being its a catholic sch, sap sch, top sch.

but i m now having 2nd thots becos its very diff to get in, this year reg only hv 9 seats for 2b n 2c. wonder if history will repeat itself. also, got so many pple here living within 1km. must always balloting even if live within 1km, at both phases. chances of gettg in slim. also, my boy is just average, may stress him like mad if eg cant even finish sch classwk in sch and got to bring hm classwk plus hmwk. he has short attn span. even in childcare he cant finish his wk at times.

so i thinkg of MSH which is also cath sch, sap sch. but academically not so strong. also, will be a bit far from my #1 who studies in amk. cos to get into MSH we are thinkg of shiftg to avoid balloting.

i m now also thinkg of anderson pri cos i think its the top sch in amk besides sng. plus that area near my #1 sch. but not sure abt anderson academic standing, plus it is not related to anderson sec. and wont higher chinese at p1.

my friend says better to go for schs with affiliation esp if the child not so bright, due to the lower COP for affiliated students.

by the way is there a compilation of pri sch # psle passes and top scorer or average score?

If the child is not so bright and needed the lowered COP to get into the affiliated sec school, then he will be competing against bright students from non-affiliated schools who got in with their high scores. This not-so-bright child will always end up at the bottom of the class.

So is this a good thing for the child? Especially for his confidence and self-esteem?

even so, i thot if can get into the affiliated sch whc usually is a top or quite ok sch, can at least benefit from the hopefully better teachers or better system of education or the study culture or whatever that makes that sch is better one compared to some really neighborhood sch wif much lower COP?

one more thing to add, at least the child get to be in the same sch as his or her academically stronger classmates who graduate like him or her from the affiliated pri sch, as i think the child generally likes to stay in the same (full) sch?
